We’ve loved Toucanos in the past, but last night our experience was awful.
My husband made a reservation for dinner at 8:00 for my birthday. His only request was please give us good seating. When we came in we got seated next to the buffet and the opening to where they clean dishes, so it was just load and busy constantly with people going in & out.
Our waitress came over and it first she was friendly. She asked if we’re celebrating anything special and we said my birthday, she asked if we had the toucanos app, which we didn’t. She explained she can’t honor it today since we didn’t have the app but we can download the app and can come in 30 days after my birthday and get a buy one get one free. We appreciated this and even chatted about coming back and using that.
The boys coming up with meat were friendly. The first one asked what temperature we like our meat at etc. We explained my husband doesn’t like beef and to also prioritize bringing other meats like chicken. When they would bring meat they would portion it very small and only give us one piece. Half of the meat was dry and very fatty we would normally get 1-2 bites of meat then we would have to wait for more.
When the chicken finally came my husband asked for 4 pieces (at this point I had already finished eating and we were just waiting for chicken for him) which the kid was understandable & nice about since my husband wasn’t eating the meat, so he gave him 4 pieces. We were then immediately approached by someone else after he left asking if we were finishing up, since we turned the green to red to stop asking for meat. We asked to give us a few more minutes as my husband just ate one piece of chicken and still had 3 pieces on his plate. They said sure took plates we weren’t finished with and we were immediately approached with the check by our waitress. We just paid $85 for barely eating and felt as if we were being pushed out.
When our waitress came up with the check she mentioned how it’s the buy one get one free and I surprisingly said “Oh you’re honoring that for us? Thank you.” In which she said with a smirk “Oh yeah you don’t have the app just joking.” We were dumbfounded. That’s fine, we already knew and you explained that you wouldn’t be able to honor that… So why would you say that? It was rude and the staff should learn proper etiquette and communication. Overall some of the food was great, most of it was not. Our customer service was awful but the boys serving the meat were friendly. I would recommend going to Cheesecake Factory...
Read moreWe used to visit Tucanos often but stopped around a year ago when we felt their service started going downhill. With family in town, we decided to give it another try tonight and our party of 10 was sorely disappointed. When seated, our table was missing plates and utensils, but had enough food underneath that our mom asked their team to come and sweep it. It then took a while before our server came to the table and when given our utensils we ended up with a pair of tongs & plate that still had pieces of food on it. We assumed it might have just been a rough start but it didn’t seem to get any better.
One guest was hoping to get an alcoholic drink but since our drink orders kept getting messed up from the beginning to end, she didn’t feel it would be the best idea with kids at our table. The meat was also overcooked resulting in it being dry and burnt and our party had concerns about the careless way the meat servers handled their knives, where another staff member tried to step in and assist for a few different situations. Additionally, one meat server didn’t ask everyone at the table if they wanted an item they were serving, which resulted in guests missing out on items, mostly the two kids in our party. Another meat server just plotted food on plates without any communication, or eye contact, & managed to splash fish oil on members of our party who didn’t even want fish in the first place. They were sloppy and seemed to rush their interactions with each table, despite the meat service being slow.
Our server Erica was kind and put in effort to correct everything above but no one else seemed to care as much. The quality of food didn’t improve after she spoke with the cooks and meat servers, other waitresses continued to bring the wrong drink item after she corrected them, and after asking for specific items, we didn’t receive them. The items from the salad bar were great but probably not worth the price we paid, plus gratuity. Our negative experience seemed to be a result of their low staffing numbers and poor management, which would be more understandable for a restaurant that is half the price. I hope Tucanos can elevate their services to the standard they first...
Read moreI really enjoyed visiting Tucanos. The wait time was great considering how popular it is. I would recommend making reservations in advance. My server's name was Brandee and she did a really good job at explaining everything to me though she was fairly new. The food was amazing. I got a taste of almost every single meat twice. I would recommend them. I did taste one that had a burnt taste. Other than that, I enjoyed the meat. The pineapple was amazing. Nice juiciness and also cooked taste. The rice and beans were a little different to my taste, but still delicious. The spicy chicken was one of the best things I had, a really nice spice in almost every bite. I really enjoyed the fried bananas as well. The spices in them were amazing! I also had the limeades. I would recommend the Raspberry Limeade as well as Pineapple Limeade. I thought the experience was great. The servers coming around with the different foods was good, a great way to see if guests would be interested in certain foods. The bussers were also doing a good job at cleaning the tables so more guests could sit and enjoy a meal. Towards the end of my experience, it did take a little bit longer for servers to offer the meats and pineapple. I think this restaurant would be a great place to eat at for business related meals. They have bigger tables where I could definitely see people sitting at for parties or for business meals. One last thing I would also recommend doing, is visiting between 11-3 when they have a lunch discount, if you're looking for something a little cheaper with the...
