I think the restaurant needs to retrain their staff on responsible serving of alcohol. We had one member of our group who got very inebriated off more than a couple rounds of shots. This person in our group continued asking for more shots we told our waitress to stop bringing them due to the person having driven there and also was clearly already very drunk. The waitress did not listen to the rest of the group and her response was “I listen to the first person I hear”. She brought out a few more rounds of shots and keep in mind these were very expensive shots about 25 to 30 for each shot which added up to a bill well over 1 thousand dollars. I don’t care about the money but I do believe when a group of people tells the waitress what’s in the best interest of their friend they should listen especially when it’s expressed that everyone was driving. I think the worst part was the member of our group ended up getting very sick and could not move and instead of bringing water or helping ease the situation the manager came out and told us to leave which I get for a liability sake but he also wanted us gone so bad that instead of waiting for one of our other party members to finish his beer he allowed for it be in a Togo cup with a straw (like I said some members were driving and this was made known). We were also not being rowdy she was resting in the outdoor area on a couch and was getting sick into a bag. I think we as a group especially the ones who remained relatively sober throughout the night see it as the waitress looking to pump up the bill for the included gratuity and then no assistance or support once the situation that they helped create by not listening got out of hand. I understand people need to make their money but I just feel as though we were ignored while trying to look out for the better interest of our friend. To readdress it’s not about the money and other than that it was a good night with good food I just think it was wrong and that there should be better...
Read moreI really want to like this place and recommend this place. The food was amazing and I'm sure on any other day this would have been a great location.
We came in later in the evening and could tell there was a convention of some sort in the hotel with some of them at the Tavern. We got seated and waited for service. Our waiter got our drink and food orders and left. When they returned, they said the bar was out of one of the other drinks and just chose a substitute. If we'd known they were out, we would have ordered something very different from what they chose to substitute.
Throughout this whole experience, our waiter was rarely present. It was other staff delivering the drinks and food as well as taking orders since he wasn't present. With the convention present, it was extremely crowded and loud throughout the tavern.
Then, after an hour (I understand they were busy), we receive our entrees. Or...part of them. They said one of the sides was out so they had a substitute. They also said one of the entrees was no longer available and hadn't been available since before we ordered. We didn't get informed about this at all until they just didnt deliver it. So, we ordered a substitute dish. Eventually the substitute dish came out and we were looking for our waiter to get the check and just take it back to our room. He was just chatting to another waiter on the other side of the room. We tried to wave him down and he ended up just moving to a further corner to chat to more people. We waved down another waiter and asked for the check.
We got the check and they did comp the one entree that was missing and gave 10% off the entire check, but this was just not a great experience. The food itself was fantastic, but the way that the service was handled for a resort this size was just unacceptable. Maybe one day I will give them another shot, but I will likely search out another...
Read moreThe Good: We were able to sit on the back terrace and it is great! You get a nice view of the beautiful grounds as well as glimpses of Islands of Adventures from a distance. It’s a great way to end your day. We ordered two cocktails and the Rum Revival was really tasty.
The Bad: Our dining experience was poor. Service was extremely slow and our waiter was fairly dismissal about it. He literally came to our table and said one time, “Sorry that the kitchen is slow but there’s really nothing that can be done about it. At least whenever your food gets here it’ll be fresh!” Of course I can understand when a kitchen gets behind, but there comes a point where things get way over the line with a slow kitchen and we were definitely past that point. We ended up having to leave before the remaining food arrived.
When I approached our server and told him we would just leave because the food was taking too long, he went to the back for a few minutes — came back out then literally said, “I spoke with my manager and were able to not charge you for those items that didn’t arrive.” Ha! Of course! You never brought it out — Of course you’re not going to charge us…
The food that did arrive was pretty poor as well. I had the worst ceviche I’ve ever had in my life (Agua Ceviche). Zero flavor. It tasted like nothing. We also ordered the Camerones al Ajillo. It was also tasteless. The jerk chicken was good - but the problem with these tapas restaurants is that the portion sizes are just so small.
Overall thoughts: I’m thinking something must have just been way off with our experience this particular night compared to other reviews. Clearly most people love this place. We just weren’t able to enjoy it like we thought we would when we...
