So my girlfriend and I were planning on going to Hamburger Mary's after we saw our production at the Mad Cow Theatre, but their hours were wrong on Google Maps and they were closed by the time we got there. So we turned to Yelp and were led here. Thank God.
We get here and a nice employee tells us about how their menu works. They have their set of recipes that you can choose from and eat in the style that you prefer. Everything is set at a flat $8 for the main courses.
I get the Barnyard (Shredded Chicken, Shredded Lettuce, Pico De Gallo, Tangy BBQ Sauce and Potato Sticks) in a burrito with rice. It was very good. I don't usually get chicken things, but the BBQ sauce and the potato sticks convinced me. The moist, shredded chicken was slathered in the sauce and the potato sticks added the perfect textual crunch that I often wish was in burritos more often.
My girlfriend, on the other hand, blew my meal away with hers. She got the two tacos option. One was the Maui (Shredded Chicken, Shredded Lettuce, Pineapple Pico De Gallo, Mango Pineapple Vinaigrette and Cotija Cheese) and the other was the Mac Attack (Angus Ground Beef, Craft Beer Queso Mac & Cheese, Applewood Smoked Bacon, and Green Onion).
Best tacos I've had in Orlando. Hands down. The tortilla was super awesome and fresh and didn't crumble in your hands. The Maui was great with the same chicken I had with the acid and the sweet and the cheese. Wow. So good.
But the best bite of the night was from the Mac Attack, personally recommended to us by the previously mentioned employee. The ground beef was so umptious and the queso was strong and tasted like queso. The bacon taste and texture finished off this perfect bite. I was blown away. Please order this.
Another good note. We also ordered the Chips & Craft Beer Queso side item. The chips were ok, obviously made from the same tortillas as the tacos. The beer queso is apparently made from a different queso every day! With the beer of the day displayed for all to see. That's pretty kool.
Overall, I want you to come to this place and give them your money. It was a great atmosphere within walking distance of anywhere in Downtown Orlando, and the value was excellent. I'm definitely going to come back because I want to try all of the recipes. I'll...
Read moreNormally, I cannot be bothered to leave a review; this is the first I've ever completed. However, after this experience I felt it necessary to make some comments. First, I do want to note that the employees are not necessarily the reason for my bad review; they were nice and pleasant enough. The food was just disappointing. My partner and I decided to stop here for a quick lunch one afternoon. Upon walking in, we saw that there was hardly anyone in there. Let's just say, we figured out why...
The menu is chock full of eclectic items meant to give the impression of a hip establishment. However, if you're going to do something esoteric like that, you must be able to execute it well. Otherwise, it turns out disgusting, which is exactly what happened. I ordered a strange version of a cheeseburger mac n cheese taco out of pure curiosity. This abomination was a greasy pile of slop on a wet taco shell with a burnt cheese crisp on the outside. The only edible part that wasn't abysmally greasy was the half-assed macaroni that they piled on top of each monstrosity. I felt nauseous afterward from the grease.
My partner got a "chicken bacon ranch burrito" (sounds gross, I know), and it also ended up being, well, pretty gross. It was just a big mess doused in thin, watery ranch and extremely fatty pieces of bacon. It was just not good, and we both felt sick after eating here, with my partner throwing out more than half of the meal.
I just cannot justify giving this place a good review or recommending that anyone...
Read moreWent here for the first time in a year or two and was really disappointed. The door was locked despite there being a handful of people inside. A worker came to unlock it and walked away back behind the counter. Upon entering I asked if I should lock it back and he shock his head “no”. Not sure why it was locked to begin with given I was there at 11PM and they don't close until 3AM. After reviewing the menu, the same gentleman was behind the counter just staring at me. I told him I was ready to order if he was. Never was told “let me know if you have questions about the menu” or anything of the sort. Minimal talking until I attempted tk use the restroom and he told me the bathroom was closed and that it “closes every night at 11” and pulled the curtain closed to the entry way of the bathroom door. This left me even more confused b/c on the outside of the entrance door it says bathroom is for paying customers only. Weird. I ordered two chicken tacos and chips and queso. The chips and queso were not good. The chips were overly salted and super thin and the queso tasted like kraft cheese. The tacos were pretty good for what that is worth. Not sure if this is just expected for a late night spot downtown but last time I went after a Magic game per a recommendation and the food was great and there was some semblance of...
