Recently relocated to Alabama for work and I've been on the hunt for some good food. Surprisingly enough while I lived in Georgia pretty much my entire life, THIS was the first time that I'd eaten at this restaurant. I had a hankering for a calzone with wings so I put Google to work and came up with Mellow Mushroom. I places the order online at about 5:15pm and received my confirmation email saying that my order would be ready for pickup at 6:15pm. I thought nothing of since it's a restaurant that probably gets pretty busy at times. I arrived early so I chose to sit in my car and wait until my pickup time. A nice size restaurant with outdoor/patio seating, plenty of booth style tables inside and smiling faces of the servers everywhere! I think there's a bar as well but don't quote me on that since I kind of made a beeline to the pickup area for my food. I gave the server my name and she brought my food right out! Got back in my car and drove about 5mins up the road to my hotel in Pell City. I was excited about this calzone because it smelled amazing! The calzone was everything that I hoped it would be and the marinara made it even better! The down side to this whole adventure was that the food was bordering cold. The wings weren't salvageable as they were dry before I made the decision to pop them in the microwave. I discarded them after trying one or two. They didn't live up to my expectations.. but the calzone? Omg it was delicious! I'll definitely go back for the calzone but next time, maybe I'll try a different appetizer. When the manager came by our table, it was nicely mentioned that the beer was flat, and without checking it, she argued with my family member, saying, āItās not flat, I just had some and it was fine!ā. I was surprised that she would admit to drinking on the job, as well as basically call a customer a liar, without even checking it. My family members did NOT drink it. Then an automatic gratuity of 22% was charged without our permission to r knowledge. Most of my family has at some point work in the service industry, and we tip well for good service, but in this case, 22% was not acceptable. A typical large party automatic gratuity, is usually 10-15%. When I called to inquire why we had been charged this unusual amount, the manager, Julie was on the phone and claimed that we were only charged 20%, but that she did not have access to pull up our entire receipt, then had the audacity to speak to me in a rude tone, and informed me that she could walk me through how to calculate the percentage if I had a calculator. Iāve been a math teacher for many years, and had to inform her how to actually calculate it correctly! The management at this location is absolutely horrific, and has no concern for customer satisfactionn! Between myself, my family, and my friends, we typically spend $300-$500 per visit. I made a reservation for a Friday night for 8 people. I understand that itās a busier night which is why I made a reservation. I specified that it was for outside. It was raining so I didnāt think it was going to be a problem. We arrived 10 minutes before the reservation and they told us that another group of 8 ātook our tableā and they werenāt able to seat us outside until they left. They kept offering us an inside table but I deliberately said we could only sit outside when I made the reservation, and if there were inside seats available they could just move the people who they gave our table to inside, but they would not.
By 10 minutes after our reservation time we decided to look outside to see if there was anything else and we found a seating area that did not have a table but that had enough spots for us. (There was a small coffee table in the middle.) About 10 minutes after we were seated they finally came by and took our order. At no point were menus offered, we took them from a nearby table. It took 45 minutes for our drinks to come out and another 30 minutes after that for our food. (We ordered everything at the same time.)
At least three orders were completely wrong. (Ordered a Buffalo chicken calzone but got the Buffalo dip instead, etc.)
At no point was anything comped.
The manager came to apologize and the waitress was nice but very inexperienced. The food was decent but I very much doubt we are ever going to come here again because if such...
