When we checked in with our dog we were given a ground floor handicapped room, since it was available and easier with the dog.
PROS: This was one of the cleanest hotels we've ever stayed in; lobby, desk area, hallways, room were impeccable. There was only one (very small) luggage cart, and the woman at the front desk took the time to push it to the side door I needed to park by. She was courteous, very professional and still nicely friendly. The room door and bathroom door are both extra-wide to accommodate wheelchairs.
CONS: There are no cut-outs in the curbs for any side doors, which means you can’t get a luggage cart in that way without lifting it. The rest of my review concerns the room’s being advertised as a “handicapped accessible room”. The room door is so heavy that I had to use my entire body to get it open. There is no way someone in a wheelchair or on crutches could open this door. And yes, the bathroom door is wide enough for a wheelchair, but the bathroom itself is so small that a wheelchair could only fit halfway. Even if you could fit a small wheelchair somehow, the shower is not wheelchair accessible! It’s an ordinary shower, accessible via a door and then step up, step over, step down to get in, with the reverse to get out. If you managed to get a chair into the shower, you’d need someone else to reach the shower handle because it’s at standard height. If a person with wheelchair managed to get into the shower, the bath towels are on a rack to the back, too high for my wife (5’ 4”) to reach. Also, the bathroom door does not stay open unless you prop it open with something (I used an iron). The bathroom sink is too high for a wheelchair, as is the bed. Even I had a hard time getting into it. There is a refrigerator in a cabinet whose door opens 90 degrees to the left. The refrigerator, however, opens to the right, so you would have to wheel back to open the outer cabinet door, then try to turn in the small space to open the refrigerator and reach whatever you wanted inside. There’s no way even a child’s wheelchair would fit between both doors for access to items in the fridge. It’s shocking to me that in this day and age, all that’s apparently required to qualify the room as “handicapped accessible” is an extra wide door too...
Read moreI stayed at here on the week of 03/09/2024. I called to reserve a room a few days before, but the attendant told me that I could not get a government rate because I called too late. I stayed anyway because my employer sent me to a class at JSU. 1. I had to call three times to get someone to send me a third-party authorization form to use my employer credit card. 2. The pool was not in service, and it appeared that the hotel management was in no hurry to get it operational. 3. As per a sign in my room (330), an attendant was supposed to come in the room and bring new towels, stock toilet paper etc., every other day. I checked in on a Monday, and by Thursday night, no one had come to do that. 4. I called downstairs to ask someone to bring new towels for my last night and was told to come get them myself at the counter downstairs. 5. None of the outlets worked on the side of the bed headboards. The refrigerator cabinet door wouldn't close and stuck out in the traffic area as you open the entry door to the room. 6. Some of the blinds in the room window were broken and the outer set that did work hung sideways. 7. As the sun begin to set, one of the security lights outside pointed directly at room 330. 8. Power went off at some point on 03/06/2024 in early morning hours until daybreak, although the neighboring Hampton Inn had full electricity.|I am not one to complain much or leave reviews, especially when I get email after email asking me to fill out a survey. Ironically, after staying at this hotel, I never got an email asking for a survey. I would expect this kind of service had the price not been considerably higher than all the other surrounding hotels. All around, this was a terrible stay and was extremely disappointing considering Hilton has been known to have a good name. Please consider looking into the management at this location. |There have been several reviews that left similar complaints, and Hilton has responded, but it appears that nothing has been done to improve their level of service. | Having been in this area several times for work, I would suggest Courtyard Marriott, Fairfield Inn, Hotel Finial in downtown, or drive to Jacksonville just a few miles away. Much better hotels...
Read moreLoved the hotel, hated the food.
We got one of their Wirlpool suites and it was fantastic. Having the tub in the main part of the room near the bed was great. Being able to watch TV and relax in the tub was far superior to being tucked away in a separate room. The shower/toilet room was a little cramped but looked very nice and the shower was huge. The rest of the hotel was very nice and all of the staff we interacted with were hospitable and quickly took care of everything we asked for. We will absolutely stay here again.
The food on the other had was terrible. It wasn't "expensive" compared with other sit down restaurants in the area. The selection was pretty limited and the portions weren't small but oh my god did the food suck. The dinner rolls were rock hard and their salad croutons were sweet which was a little off putting. I ordered the fish and chips. The batter wasn't light and flaky like you would expect. It was super hard like a fish stick and was extremely grainy. The fish itself was good and cooked perfectly but I had to strip all of the batter off to eat it. The fries were way over cooked and lacked any seasoning. . My wife ordered the NY Strip steak with bacon mashed potatoes. The steak was seasoned well but the quality of cut didn't measure up. All of the fat was rock hard and the steak itself was tough. The mashed potatoes tasted ok but there were huge chunks of soggy bacon which huge chunks of fat attached to them. This was a textural nightmare. This was something I'd expect at Denny's for $9.95, not $19. By the way, they have Kraft Mac n Cheese on the kid's menu for $4. I suggest leaving the hotel for food. There are tons of choices...
