Still the worst experience and super nasty food.
What would you expect anyway, it's in Arizona and not Kansas City or Memphis. McDonalds McRib is likely to taste better. I'll bet 9/10 would totally agree.
⚠️ Update: The owner or manager also left a nasty response. Read this review if you like...but the easy answer for this place is to not go.
Keep reading...it gets worse.
I love BBQ. This might be an understatement.
Read their comment to this review. It just reinforces what we experienced and the type of establishment this is. I'm also not the only one leaving these reviews lately. I also found negative reviews on other sites. Check Yelp and others for more of these reviews.
To also be clear...we paid in full for our meal, nothing was discounted and nothing else was offered except for some snarkiness.
This visit had all the right ingredients, starting out. Great reviews, locals love it, live music (not when we were there, but still could be considered a plus), smokers going...the smell would've even had the non BBQ lovers steering into this quaint little small town find.
We were sat promptly and given menus. Drink order taken quickly and delivered. So far so good. Yes...we found the place.
Lady stops by the table to take our order... she possibly appeared to be having a rough day. That's ok...they happen. We go to order and the first sandwich and we're corrected to call it a number one. It's a number one she said. They definitely don't want you to call it a pulled pork sandwich, at least from this experience.
The food came and it was quick. No doubt they get it to the table fast. I ordered a beef brisket sandwich with a side of cowboy beans. The cowboy beans had peices of tasteless brisket. I felt the only way to make this interesting might be to put salt in it or some BBQ sauce.
The BBQ sauce, they offer 3 sauces, traditional, sweet and spicy. I don't do spicy. So I went for the traditional and the sweet. Oh no...these sauces are either loaded with mustard or some other ingredients that just don't represent any other BBQ sauces I've ever had.
However, being a purest, I went for a bite of the barbecue beef brisket sandwich without any sauce. This was surely to be the savior of it all. First bite and smell was terrible? It tasted expired at best or maybe the meat was old and not from today? There was hard pungent after taste. It was so bad that I thought if I kept eating I would be sick.
Now I'm all for small businesses, so in my normal fashion of leaving only positive reviews I thought, I will just pay the bill and discreetly leave. The waitress knew something was wrong, because we hadn't eaten any of the meal aside from my fiance's salad. She asked us if we didn't like the meal. I was polite and I only said that, we didn't care for it. But we would just love to pay and take off. At this point she summoned what I could only guess as the manager or the owner after stating we won't have to pay for a meal we don't like. I had also already paid. So I wasn't about the free meal or the three bites.
The manager, I will call her, asked what the issue was. I stated what I said above. She was upset and said I will simply take it up with the cook. Then abruptly left the table. Shes didnt offer any options and i git the feeling she's more than likely heard this many times ans simply doesn't care.
The waitress didn't know what to say. She truly felt concerned and didn't think we should pay for it.
I'll be honest. I never want someone to work and not get paid to do it. So that's what we did.
I'm only writing this review so that those of you who work really hard for your money can save it for a better meal. I would suggest McDonald's...
Read moreOverpriced, tourists’ trap. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either- dry meat with no flavor (the portions weren’t that big either). The staff and service was pretty fast considering that amount of people, even though no one even got carded for alcohol- again, nothing extraordinary but not bad either. Overall, we were having a normal dinner and a pleasant night. The problems started when we received the check - before we were even done eating and we even had a chance of asking for it - and we automatically got a “group bill” because, apparently, that’s what you get when you ask for a table for multiple people. The real reason is that they charge a service fee (added to the extra taxes and recommended tip) for every check over $100, which no one in our group would’ve reached on their own. Mind you, we’re a group of people coming from different parts of our home country and some of us have been living here in the states for a while now, so exchanging money between us is not an easy task, which is why we asked for separate bills- like we’d already done multiple times before with no issues. We received a no for an answer, because “we were already marked as a group” even though no one asked us whether we were one or not, nor they specified that those were the rules before we got assigned to our table. We spoke with the manager, who had the worst, conceited attitude and kept repeating the same thing over and over again, without listening to us. She was rude and clearly starving for extra money. I, personally, would’ve spent around $19 on my own and ended up paying over $30 because of those extra fees- almost twice as my original price. I’ve been living in the US for over a year now, traveling a lot, and I’ve never once received such a bad service and been scammed as bad with random extra fees. You can see her presoumptiousness from her other reviews’ replies too, where the only thing she seems to be able to state is how everyone only deserves to go to a fast food instead, which she makes sound like a downgrade from her place, while it would only be an upgrade (and I’ve always received a better treatment there too). I would not recommend this...
Read moreDespite the slew of glowing reviews, I'm left grappling with the disappointment of a lackluster dining experience. I'm inclined to attribute it solely to a subpar meal, as there seems to be no other plausible explanation.
The ambiance exudes a welcoming Texan charm, from the sight of the two smokers outside to the overall decor that transports you to the heart of Texas itself. After our adventure exploring Lower Antelope Canyon, our appetites were ravenous, and this establishment seemed like the perfect refuge.
Our waiter promptly catered to our needs, even amidst the chaos of three hungry kids. She handled it with grace and kindness, which we truly appreciated.
However, the highlight of the evening— the food— was the ultimate letdown. As someone who takes pride in my own meat-smoking endeavors, I admittedly hold a bias with rather lofty standards. Opting for the brisket and ribs while my wife chose the pulled pork, we eagerly anticipated a mouthwatering feast.
Yet, to our dismay, all the meats proved to be dry and devoid of flavor. They leaned heavily on the sauces provided to salvage any semblance of taste. In my humble opinion, the mark of exceptional barbecue lies in the meat itself, not its reliance on condiments. While the array of sauces offered a spectrum of flavors, they couldn't overshadow the underwhelming main course.
Despite our disappointment, I'm inclined to believe this was merely an off day. After all, even the best establishments can falter occasionally due to the unpredictability of ingredients or...
