Already knew I wanted to get a date shake since I've never had one & it was one of the "must try" food items out here in Palm Springs, or so I heard. Very happy I decided to get it at Lapperts since I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.
ITEM'S ORDERED:
Actually ended up going here twice on the same day, Sunday (4th of July).
First trip in the early afternoon got the date shake (no whipped cream).
Second trip at night went with the dole whip.
TASTE:
Hmmm.... really was wondering if it was going to taste cloyingly sweet & nothing else. I was glad I was wrong, not that it isn't sweet because of course it is. But there is some really good flavor as well. Overall the shake comes off as a vanilla base with the fruity, somewhat even slightly nutty flavors making it all come together for a delicious tasting shake. I will say the date flavor seems to even enhance the vanilla flavor & makes it even more pronounced. Very good creamy texture & not overly thick you can't really drink it. Although that could just be the Palm Springs heat making it melt quickly.
The dole whip is just that, dole whip. I say that for those who've had this at Disneyland which I'm pretty sure is why this item is so known & famous. This is basically the same thing, little tart, sweet, pineapple flavor, smooth & somewhat refreshing.
I'll say it's the date shake which made the stop here worth it & the dole whip is decent. Not that the dole whip is made bad or anything, it's just always been a little overated for me, probably just because the Disney association.
SERVICE, LOCATION & PARKING:
It's a small spot & the two staff in there were very nice making these desserts that much sweeter.
Interestingly when I went early afternoon Sunday (4th of July) there was pretty much no line. But at night within last hour of opening there was a line out the door. Didn't move that quick maybe because people were taking long to choose flavors & I saw a several people leave the line.
Lappert's is located off of N Palm Canyon Dr, pretty much right across the street from the Starbucks reserve. The interior definitely has that "island vibe" with the colors & decor.
If you're lucky you'll find some really close street parking. But realistically you'll drive around a little trying to find a spot, especially if it's a busy holiday weekend like it was this day. There's also different parking lots (paid & free) spread out throughout this local area if you can't find really close street parking.
I'd definitely return back here for the date shake (large size this time) again & even maybe...
Read moreWorst ran Lapperts we've ever been to. From the service, to the flavor offerings, and even scoop size by comparison. Do yourself a favor and head to palm desert. There are 2 more Lappert locations that know how to order their ice cream and napkins etc. They have competent employees and know how to schedule too. This location doesn't do anything right seemingly. After several months of this location constantly being out of the Blue Cookie Monter ice cream its really hard to understand how whoever does the ordering cant seem to figure out to order an extra barrel of this flavor. There is a line out the door and 1 employee working the front. It wasn't until over 10kin that a second young zero personality human emerged from the back, not to say a word to anyone, not to help but to simply come take plastic things out and take the to the back to wash. We all know what that means... they want to leave the moment they close and the customers get to suffer. I hope the owner sees this and makes adjustments but ill wait a month before I come check again. Besides everything mentioned above, theur serving size is considerably smaller than other lappert locations, by roughly 35-40% from the consistency we get from palm desert locations.
Avoid this location, head to Handels or one of the other Lapperts but do not waste your time or...
Read moreAfter our amazing anniversary dinner at Sandfish my wife and I went searching for dessert and found Lappert’s Ice Cream. We recognized the name right away because one of our favorite spots in Kauai is Lappert’s in Poipu. We were excited to see if this Palm Springs location was connected and it absolutely felt like the same beloved brand.
The shop had plenty of flavors that nod to Kauai like the Kauai Pie, which made us smile. I ordered a scoop of Princess Cake and a scoop of mint chip. The Princess Cake was outstanding with rich cake batter chunks and a smooth creamy texture. The mint chip was good though not as memorable, but the Princess Cake more than made up for it. My wife chose the Kauai Pie and Ube flavors and loved both of them.
Everything about our visit hit the spot. The ice cream was fresh, the flavor options were unique and fun, and the whole experience brought back memories of our trips to Hawaii. It was the perfect sweet ending to a wonderful evening and we both left happy and completely satisfied. I would absolutely recommend Lappert’s to anyone in Palm Springs who wants high quality ice cream with...
