Missed potential. We really wanted to love this restaurant, with such a beautifully decorated interior, but Lola Rose unfortunately missed on so many levels:
(1) The food simply falls short from other mediterranean restaurants. From a lackluster spread, to dried falafel, to an overcooked kebab; the food and the chef dramatically drop the potential of Lola Rose. If this restaurant lasts longer than a year, it will be from the support of tourists, because after locals like us try it once, they most likely will not be going back.
(2) Pricing - we chose the "Petite Mezze," which was recommended by our server, and feeds two people for $90. At first this sounded like a good deal because you get one green, one spread, one plate, one kebab, and one tahdig. But after we ordered this, we calculated what each item ordered separately on the menu would cost altogether, and it actually came out to be $22 less than what we paid. So we left feeling completely ripped off and taken advantage of. Word of advice - if you get this "deal" calculate the cost of everything you want to order, and see if it is actually worth $90, or else just order what you want a la carte.
(3) Service - we came early when there were still empty tables, and even then the service was slow. When the restaurant filled up, it was almost impossible to get even a refill on water. Without basic service, this restaurant will not last.
Our recommendation is to completely skip Lola Rose altogether, and make a reservation at the neighboring Bar Issi, where the drinks, food, and service are top notch. Lola Rose needs to completely revamp their management, staff, and retrain their kitchen with a chef that is more experienced with...
Read moreWe have been excited about the chance for a new cool place in town. This was a bit of a let down. We came on a Saturday Afternoon and ended up with a brunch menu.
The food was mostly decent. The service was actually really poor. After being seated for just a few minutes our server asked us "what can I get you?" With no welcome, or offer of a drink order, it was just weird. And then when we said we weren't ready she just walked off and didn't even enquire about drinks. Then she left us alone for about 20mins and we had to ask the guy pouring water about ordering some drinks.
Finally we got everything ordered and the food came out pretty quickly. It was hit and miss. I had the falafel which was pretty good, nice and crispy, served with a nice tzatziki, pickled cucumbers and onions.
The chicken skewers were absolutely murdered. So overcooked you needed a steak knife to cut them. The rice that came on the plate seemed to have been made yesterday and only lightly reheated, definitely not fresh made.
The kale salad was made with the same overcooked chicken and was just mostly bland.
The pancakes were another bright spot. Fluffy, light and topped with an amazing blueberry whipped cream.
When the bill came the server placed it down on the table, and immediately walked off saying "thanks" as she turned away. Very disappointing for a $150 meal.
I'm not sure if we'll be back. The view is quite nice and you could sit outside, this day was too windy. Some of the food was good but the service left a terrible taste in our mouth. It's a new place so maybe we will give them 6mo to...
Read moreWe were so impressed after a lunch visit a couple of weeks ago that we returned with my mother this past weekend for dinner.
Mina, the manager, is outstanding—her warm, friendly demeanor made us feel like special guests. The new, glamorous hostess sets a tone of chic hospitality, creating a welcoming and stylish vibe right from the start.
Here’s a tip: Skip the stairs from Palm Canyon Drive and take the elevator from the hotel lobby instead. Not only will you pass through the lobby’s stunning art, but you’ll also get a gorgeous preview of the restaurant’s ambiance, with its breathtaking view of the pool deck and the mountains beyond. We arrived early for our 5:30 PM dinner reservation and enjoyed the sunset while sipping cocktails and mocktails by a cozy firepit.
The food was delightful. We began with the endive salad, hummus, and the muhammara—a luxurious blend of roasted red peppers, walnuts, and pomegranate molasses. The only appetizer we didn’t love was the maroulosalata salad, which was dressed a bit too acidic for our taste.
For mains, we tried the beef and chicken kabobs, paired with a side of tahdig. Every bite was flavorful and well-prepared, the kabobs were accompanied by little bites of onions, peppers, and ripe grilled cherry tomatoes. We also ordered the garlic toum sauce for the meats.
The atmosphere at Lola Rose is stylish and inviting, making it a great addition to Palm Springs’ food scene, which has long needed a fresh and vibrant option like this.
Highly recommend making a reservation and enjoying this...
