Made a 5:00 reservation for Thursday, December 7. The bar opened right at 5:00 and we were promptly seated. Drink and food menus were brought to the table and our server introduced herself.
We came here because of the Miracle Christmas pop-up theme but were a bit disappointed at how the theme was implemented. As one member of my party said, “This just looks like a bar with some Christmas decorations.’ We then went on Instagram and compared where we were with what many others are doing with the Miracle theme. Truss & Twine are definitely lacking.
All of the cocktails on the menu sound yummy and at $16-18 each they’d better be. Our server did a great job answering questions about the drinks and the four of us each ordered something different. When our drinks arrived we were very impressed with the presentation. All of the glassware is Christmas-themed and available to purchase. I had the Yippie-Kai-Yay, which was tasty but I could do without the powdered sugar. My wife enjoyed the Snowball Old-Fashioned, and my daughter and her fiancé enjoyed their drinks (I don’t remember what they ordered).
As we were only having one drink we asked for the check. It was quickly brought to us and the total seemed high to me. So I looked at it closely (the bar is dark) and there it was … buried without a warning … a 4% surcharge. I asked for an explanation from our server and she said something about employee 401k. I asked for it to be removed and it was.
If a restaurant owner is paying too much in rent then renegotiate the lease. If the inventory costs are too high then have a talk with the suppliers (although the margins on alcohol for the restaurant owner are huge when you are charging these prices). If labor costs are too high then dial back the number of employees (our server was the only one I saw while we were there). What you don’t do is insult the customers by putting a surcharge...
Read moreThis is an update of a previous review. Took my girlfriend here last night (5/3) and had a terrible experience. Kevin, who I had previously enjoyed as a server, was beyond inappropriate. We left after only one drink after he made multiple comments to my girl. Not OK. We will definitely not be sitting in his area again.
Original review - Been here a couple times with friends. They are "regulars" here and gave a lot of insight. I liked that Workshop is right there, so we could plan dinner and then come here for a nightcap.
Nathaniel was amazing. Super funny, but also extremely helpful/knowledgeable with drink suggestions. We all sat at the bar the second night and he was also entertaining to watch.
First night, our server (lovely, dark hair, petite...sorry, forgot the name) was so personable, friendly and accomodating of our requests.
The drinks here are much more complex than your average bar and the ability to try a variety of very expensive alcohol/brands without having to go out and buy a whole bottle, was great!
Overall, an excellent place to meet with friends or a date. The appetizers were all better than expected! Amazingly delicious and very filling.
Definitely a MUST go-to bar. I think it might be the best in the valley!
The photos recently posted by other reviewers truly do it justice. It is beautiful! Much better pics than ones...
Read moreThis place has drinks reviewed in Imbibe for a reason. We talked with Dave, who is the genius behind the drinks, and he is not only really cool, but his drinks are legit. I had The Game Changer. Yep. Truth. Have one. His tiki drinks are on point (and for reference I make my own falernum and orgeat, so I am not a flamingo-shirted noob). His reinterpretations of the "dark ages" of cocktails elevate boring things like the Cosmopolitan and the White Russian to drinks adults might actually wanna quaff. Nothing here is overly sweet. Everything here is worth it. This is the kind of place you wanna order a cocktail you often and at home to see if yours lives up. Plus the snacks are also stupid good. We saw lots of people poke their heads in the windows and bail. The place does look dark and modern and serious. And the drinks are. But the vibe is friendly and cool and inviting. Is it worth the drive from LA? I dunno, man, is anything worth that drive? But look, it is worth the 20 minutes from the I-10 if you are driving past the wind turbines and are thinking about taking a few hours off to wait for traffic on the 60 to chill out before rolling home from your ill-advised weekend in inevitably disappointing Scottsdale. If you are in Palm Springs at all, ever, this is the one place you...
