I love their other location 888 Japanese BBQ. But this place is a tourist trap. Maybe it was good during grand opening week according to reviews? Extremely saucy, items were mostly over cooked except for edamame was undercooked, with fried chicken looking like orange chicken, most ingredients was poorly prepared or not great quality, etc. This location is very very very very off from the higher quality everything expectations of the 888 brand of restaurants.
Pork robata is better than chicken robata here. But none are good in general to me. Sushi was not good in comparison to sooooo many other ayce sushi places in Vegas. = If they don't up their robata or sushi game, they'll be gone soon....too much competition in Vegas. Or it can continue strong as a tourist trap for the Midwest/middle America demographic?
Again, I'm a huge fan of 888 Japanese AYCE, and probably today's will still recommend it as #1 must eat at place worth spending by LA/Socal friends/family. After eating this place, I'm now wondering if 888 Japanese BBQ is still good today?
$25 A Menu - $35 B Menu - $45 C Menu. Below is my quick breakdown between menus from online (in person menu is different): $25 A Menu: No beef skewers. Still yes to 1 carpaccio (1qty), nigri, sushi, poke, robata skewers, and good amount of appetizers, salads. Not one the online menu, but IRL menu includes also ramen, mini tacos, and ice cream. There are some items here and there also missing from the phone menu.
$35 B Menu includes items not on menu A -- beef skewers and (1qty) eel, (1 qty) 3 more carpaccios, special nigri including 1qty uni and 1qty sweet shrimp, premium rolls, 2 more poke, (1qty) yellowtail collar, appetizers like (1qty) oysters, soft shell crab and tako.
$45 C Menu has everything. List of what is not on Menu B -- (1qty) 6 carpaccios, (1qty) Nigiris: Wagyus, Niku-Uni, King salmon, Kampachi (1qty) Premium Roll: 888 Surf and Turf (1qty) Yellowtail collar
$25 Menu, vomit of notes for myself.... Then I just stopped once I realized everything is not decent in comparison to what you can get in Vegas. We haven't found a good robata/yakitori place in Vegas but many nonayce places is much much much better than and don't need sauce to hide it. The $25 try was to try their basic. Because 888 Japanese BBQ basic was great in general. And with that location, we usually get middle tier or highest tier. Salmon carpaccio 1limit Rakkyo Garlic Tuna Nigiris Salmon Halibut Eel Squid - This was good the 1st round, and not the same the 2nd round. Tobiko (fish roe) Seared Mackerel 888 K Special (softshell crab, tuna, avocado, cucumber) - too saucey. Salmon poke - no. Cucumber salad Black garlic sesame chicken Yuzu wasabi pork Kurobuta sausage - no!! Regular hot dog. Ika - request this to be precut. Can't tear off. Would not order again. Salmon collar Edamame Agedashi tofu Baked green mussels Takoyaki Soboro Black Garlic Noodle - sweet noodles, not for me.
Maybe this location was created by a different investor or is a franchise. It's so different. Also there's no alcohol which wasn't a...
Read more888 family expanded to open up a sushi place. I love 888 Japanese bbq so I came in here expecting a bit also considering the reviews I saw on social media.
Ordered the highest tier at $48 before taxes, drinks, and tip. I like how there are a lot of options. Although the appetizers are basic ones (not complaining much about the selection though because we're here for sushi and meat, not appetizers). No sauce with the shrimp tempura either.
The fish quality was definitely good but I'm rating it with 3 stars because the sauce they put on some of their items are too sweet and I don't like how they put a light sweet soy sauce on most of their nigiris making the rice soggy. Maybe it's a tactic to make you eat less?
I'm just disappointed because I was impressed with the fish quality but the sauce was okay. The eel nigiri is probably one of the better ones we've tasted in AYCE sushi places here but the sauce was a tad too sweet. Wagyu robata skewer stick was good but a bit well done (which defeats the purpose of eating wagyu).
Would I go back here? Honestly, maybe not and if I do I will not be getting the highest tier.
The soft serve ice cream was good though and it's different from the usual ice cream cups you'd get from AYCEs here (although you can also get those for a fee or for free if you check in on yelp).
You can always try it because the fish quality is good and it's something new to try in Vegas, but I just don't like my nigiri rice soggy.
You can probably try to ask them to remove the sauce in it.
Also, there's no ipad where you can order from unlike what I saw on social media foodie posts. It would have been nice to finally have an AYCE sushi place that does it. Make sure to get on the waitlist and time your arrival around it so that you won't have to wait so much while...
Read moreWent in for food after a show at the Virgin Hotel. I wasn't aware that this was a soft open, and there were no alcohol options... that was fine, as the drinks at the concert were pretty strong. We got tier C, but most of the C tier items were not delivered, or were not available on the ordering tablet. The oysters were outstanding. Uni was not as nice as I normally get at Hachi. No wagyu. No kama. That would have been fine, but we were not notified when we were asked which tier we would be ordering. It just never came out, or wasn't available as mentioned above. The sushi and rolls that were delivered were delicious. I found the robata hit or miss. Some offerings were amazing. Others were dry and overcooked. The ice cream was delicious as well. We didn't try any ramen or veggies.
I guess the tablet ordering system would be fine if food was coming out reliably, or our servers would have updated order status and availability, especially when items showed availabe on the tablet, but didn't get removed. The servers did come by and ask if everything was okay... yes, the food we received was. So, by the end of service, we were just ordering, hoping the things we selected would arrive. Finally, food arrived in bunches, and panic set in that we wouldn't be able to finish, and be charged for uneaten items. I hope that wasn't their plan. It was moot anyway, as we packed it all in.
I feel like 3 stars is a bit generous, but the staff was kind and well intentioned. I'm sure they will work out the kitchen and inventory issues in time. If advertised dishes are available, the price is very reasonable. We will try again in a...
