My wife, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I went here for an early dinner at around 3:00, even though we reserved seats for 4:30 (we thought the Christmas bazaar would take longer). When we arrived, the maître d' explained that they begin serving dinner at 4:00. We said "no problem, we'll come back in an hour". The maître d' then told us to hold on a second while he went back to ask the chef if they could serve us an early dinner now, and he was happy to oblige. What we were treated to was some of the best food any of us had had in some time. For starters, we had the brussel sprouts, octopus, french onion soup, and lamb ribs. Everything was beyond delicious: the brussel sprouts were slightly crispy on the outside while remaining perfectly cooked in the middle with a perfectly sweet apple butter and tangy huckleberry vinaigrette to cut the fat from the fried sprouts. The octopus was soft and tender, with a delicious charred flavor and saffron polenta that did not overpower the flavor of the octopus, but exemplified the delicious tastes. The French onion soup was the best I've ever had; savory yet sweet from the onion with a touch of red wine or balsamic vinegar that was absolutely delicious. If you like lamb, the ribs were magnificent with a wonderful bed of green pea and radish salad. For our entrees we split the shorty melt and bone-in short-ribs. The shorty melt was the best reuben-style sandwich I've ever had, with garlic pickles and home made sauerkraut that paired perfectly with the juicy and tender braised short rib. It was topped with an over-medium fried egg that, when cut, dripped into the open faced sandwich; a perfect topping for a perfect sandwich. The delicious fries came with homemade ketchup which was unreal. I never knew ketchup could taste so good. Unlike other fruit-based reductions which prove to be too sweet, the bone-in short-ribs had a savory and ever so slightly sweet huckleberry reduction that brought out the meaty flavor of the ribs. It was on a bed of the best cornbread pudding I've ever had in my life, a savory blend of green chilies and onion with the natural sweetness of the corn. For dessert we had the coconut pudding with banana brûlée and dehydrated strawberries. The tapioca in the pudding was soft yet retained it's shape, and the overall flavor was perfectly sweet. We also had the olive oil cake which had candied pistachios and confit lemon, a perfect balance to the delicious and moist yet not-too-sweet cake. I know I've been raving about everything we had (and we had a lot), but there was nothing I would have changed. It was an experience that I would love to have again. My hat is off to Twisted Fern, it's chef, and everyone who made our early dinner one of the best in...
Read moreWe came in to get a glass of wine before dinner reservations at another restaurant. And boy are we glad we weren't eating at Twisted Fern. My wife and I have eaten here before and we have had good food and service before. So maybe this was a one-off and the bartender was having a bad day/night.
We were sat at the bar by the hostess who was friendly. The bartender walks up to us after having been seated for several minutes and didn't even greet us. She just said "drivers license please" We each ordered a glass of wine and said that's it for now. She asked "what food are you getting? You have to order food with drinks." We said we needed a minute and she walked away.
We both live in Utah and are aware of the "intent to dine" law in the state for restaurant liquor licenses. It is pretty vaguely written and open for interpretation. And have experienced that interpretation at many other establishments.
When she came back my wife very politely asked "We thought you had to order food after ordering a second drink" And the bartender in an EXTREMELY condescending tone said "We have a restaurant liquor license. This is not a dive bar, you can't order just drinks." We were both quite caught off guard by this but obliged and ordered a side of fries.
When we were getting ready to close out I asked for the bill and my wife got up to go check in for our other reservation. The bartender looked over and saw she was gone and said to me "Oh, that's it?"
There were two open seats at the bar next to us, we were there for less than 30 minutes, and no one was waiting. I could possibly understand being turned off by a smaller bill if there was a wait, but we were sitting in what would have otherwise been unoccupied seats. On a human level, I absolutely understand having a bad day, but that can't become every customer's problem. The condescending attitude was very off-putting and we will reconsider visiting Twisted Fern...
Read moreModern American cuisine from a very talented chef, Adam Ross in the park city area! The place has a high-class modern look but nothing crazy with natural lighting being a small quaint but inviting vibe; I didn’t feel cramped with a party of 8.
There is a myriad of food options, inviting cocktails, and a nicely put together wine list that lets you know there is genuinely alot of effort from the owner and staff. The service is endearing and correctly attentive and they decanted my bottle of châteauneuf-du-pape I requested well.
The starters are all excellent, Brussels sprouts with the kimchi is exciting and so tasty and the Foccacia would please anyone when paired with the accompanying whipped ricotta and balsamic/olive oil. While I loved the Harissa brown sugar lamb ribs I wish they had a little more meat.
The entrees were all stellar with the start of the show being the Pan Roasted Duck Breast and Chicken Coq Au Vin. The Duck is so tender with the confit duck fried black rice, apricot herb chutney just enlightening the whole dish. The Chicken Coq Au Vin is rich and filling with a very generous portion I don’t think anybody could not love this. The Elk is probably the best I’ve ever and was brilliantly cooked but the cherry compote and curry is just complimenting the elk wonderfully. Lastly the trout was fresh and similarly to the rest was a great meal with the Black rice-quinoa being so unique and the green dressing with tomato pesto just brings the whole dish to life!
All the desserts are unique and wonderful with the accompanying wine pairings being great!
I’m a Level 2 Somm and I was with guest that can be hard to please at times and had no complaints from anyone our whole service. This was a wonderful meal and service through...
