So, there are two Indian dishes that are pretty popular at Indian restaurants in the US: Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. My wife and I have been to several Indian restaurants and always order these dishes, because we like them and it's a good way to measure the restaurant by. These dishes normally have a similar taste at most Indian restaurants. So, we ordered these two dishes at Singh's, hoping for something a tick above the food at Star of India in PTC. That, unfortunately, was far from the case.
To start, it took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We saw other guests getting up and leaving, because they too had waited so long and had not been served their food.
I got the Chicken Tikka Masala, which litterally tasted like chicken in a sweet spaghetti sauce. I ordered it spicy hot and there was no spiciness to it. My wife had the Butter Chicken and her food tasted like chicken in a curry ketchup sauce and it was cold. The garlic and bulle naan bread tasted good, but were also luke warm.
I can't speak for the other dishes, but ours were disappointing and we're not sure if we will give it another chance. So far, the Star of India has nothing to worry about.
Also, as mentioned in other reviews, we noticed prefential treatment for customers who were Indian. This could simply be a cultural thing and showing them respect. But, it...
Read moreI went yesterday for their buffet. Nicely decorated the bar in the center with the register reminded me of some cafes in India. The person who sat us at the table, didn’t give a menu or explain anything about the buffet. Typical Indian buffet, Nan, rice and 3 veg dishes and 3 non veg dishes with condiments and dessert. The desserts were inter mingled with the condiments a jalapeno in the kheer is interesting but not quite what I prefer. The nan was tough and chewy, re-heated and left out does that. I tried to order a salty lassi, it created a big confusion! What I got was very thick yogurt “drink” with some salt. Must be their base for the mango lassi, but forgot to thin it down. There were supposed to be 3 appetizers, only some version of spring rolls were there, my partner got the last pice of some sort of spinach fritters. I asked about the appetizers and the man said there were only two types for today and he would get more of the spinach fritters, which never came. The staff seems inexperienced and the chef really needs to up his/her game. $40+ tip for two buffets and a drink. Will not be going back and don’t recommend. This area needs a good Indian restaurant, I was really hoping. Unfortunately they...
Read moreHave eaten there twice. First was on their first Friday night and the place was in turmoil. It took 90 mins to get takeout, the order was wrong, and they were just too busy for the 2 person staff to handle. Having said that, the prawn puri was good and the sauces on the chicken labrabdar and lamb Rogan Josh were good but the lamb was very fatty and gristly and had not been trimmed well.
Tried again 1 week later and ate in. The restaurant was much quieter so the service improved. However, the prawn puri that we enjoyed last week was so salty that my partner couldn’t eat it. Not wanting to try the lamb again, we had Goan shrimp curry and the ginger chicken. Both dishes were underwhelming. Indian is my favorite food because of the variety of dishes, depth and personality of flavor, with lots of aromatic spice and heat if spicy is ordered. However, we ordered both dishes spicy and there was no heat at all, no discernible spices, and very bland generic flavors.
I was talking to 2 other families last week who both said that the tikka masala tasted more like tomato soup.
I waited to write this review to give the restaurant one more chance but won’t be returning until the...
