It is Wednesday, middle of the day... I decided to take my family of 4 (two small kids, ages 5 and 8 and my wife) to lunch as it was my day off. We have been at Cebiche-Bar several times before, but this place is rapidly getting worse by each visit. Today's incident took us overboard and we will never go there back again. Here is how it all came down...
Hostess was young and rather rude. She approached us in Spanish and when I asked if she spoke English, she gave us an attitude immediately. Be ready to be treated as a "second class" citizen unless your Spanish is fluent.
There were 7 available tables at the time and 2 of them were set for 5 people. We were told that since we are party of 4, we cannot sit at the tables that were set for 5. At the same time, all tables for 4 were taken by the parties of 2 or 3 which made no sense. When I pointed that out, the young hostess was getting even more agitated by our presence and questioning her authority. She did everything in her power to make us unwelcome and send us home, so we left.
Since my wife and I ate there last week, we took pictures of the metal baking pans dishware that the food was served in, see below. It was filthy dirty and chipped pieces were exposing the metal underneath it. Food was pretty good though but we struggled with English again as our waitress spoke NONE. Manager is also NEVER there to raise any concerns.
The restaurant automatically adds 18% gratuity to any check, like it or not. If you not happy with a service or food, just too bad, you are out of luck as your English is not going to be of much help to voice your concern.
I suggest you bring your own sanitizer as none are offered or available. In addition, tables and seats ARE NOT being sanitized or disinfected upon patrons’ departure as we stood there for 10 minutes and saw how poor cleaning occurred between the turnovers.
Summary: Food quality and temperature is good for the most part, even though salty at times. Dishware is horrible, unpractical, oversized, and dirty looking. Service is atrocious most of the time unless you speak Spanish. Hostess leaves a lot to be desired and needs to go back to hospitality training. But during pandemic, in our opinion, cleanliness and disinfection is as equally important and that was a huge letdown as that was none-existent.
UPDATE - 1 DAY LATER *
Response from the owner that is NEVER at his restaurant nor he mentioned his name, was as anticipated - subjective, combative, with unwelcoming tone and utterly untrue. We stand behind the statements above. Restaurant was not sanitized after several tables were cleared. Hostess showed attitude towards our lack of Spanish. Restaurant had 7 tables available at the time and turning away a family with 2 small kids could and should have been handled differently altogether. We are not sure how exactly they have received all of the positive reviews but time will tell. We surely will never go back there again and we will make others aware of their true "customer service". Unfortunate experience and poor service from...
Read moreMy Soul Has Been Permanently Seasoned with Peruvian Magic! I am writing this review from a higher plane of existence, a state of pure bliss I have only been able to access after dining here. This was my third pilgrimage to this sacred temple of flavor, and I am convinced the chefs are not mere mortals, but culinary deities weaving magic with spatulas and woks. To say it has been "consistently amazing" is a galactic understatement. It has been consistently LIFE-ALTERING. Let us speak of the Ceviche. Forget everything you know about ceviche. What they serve here is not simply marinated fish. It is a baptism. The fish is so impossibly fresh, it must have teleported from the Humboldt Current directly into the kitchen. The leche de tigre is a vibrant, electric nectar that awakens taste buds you didn't even know you had. It is an elixir of pure joy, a zesty lightning bolt to the soul. I wept. Actual tears of happiness fell into my bowl. And the Lomo Saltado! Oh, the Lomo Saltado! This is not stir-fry; this is a culinary supernova. The beef doesn't just melt in your mouth; it transcends its physical form, becoming a memory of pure, unadulterated umami perfection. The onions and tomatoes are flash-seared by the breath of a benevolent dragon, and the french fries that soak up the divine juices at the bottom are not potatoes—they are golden scepters of happiness. I would build a shrine to this dish if I thought I could do it justice. The service? "Exceptional" is the word you'd use if you were describing a regular, earth-bound restaurant. Here, the staff are more like guardian angels of gastronomy. They are so friendly, attentive, and welcoming that I'm considering listing them as my emergency contacts. They don't just take your order; they guide you on a spiritual journey. They refill your water before you've even conceived of thirst. Calling this one of my "favorite spots" in Pembroke Pines is like calling the sun a "pretty light bulb." This place has ruined all other food for me. I will dream of that Aji de Gallina. I will tell my future grandchildren about the glory of their Anticuchos. Do not walk, RUN to this restaurant. Cancel your plans. Remortgage your house. Do whatever it takes. Five stars are not enough. We need a new rating system. I give it a constellation. My only regret is that I must eventually eat somewhere else, an experience which I know will be naught but ash and sorrow in my mouth. I will be back next week. And the week after...
