I have a general rule that I won't form an opinion on a place until I've been at least 3 times. I have now been 5 times and I keep wanting to go back! There is a minor, well, not criticism but it was a slight discrepancy in our expectations.
You see, for all the flavors that are on offer, the base donut is identical for all of them and the only difference being the 'icing' they get dipped in. The base donut is good, though, with a slight crisp to the outside and a beautifully soft interior.
As for the flavors, not all will be available upon your visit. they seem to be on some semi-rotation with the constants appearing to be matcha, coffee, churro, brown sugar milk tea and strawberry. Taro and ube have been in most times but has been missing on my most recent visit. I've yet to run into the s'more or milk chocolate ones yet. You're going to find a good bunch regardless however and not knowing what will be there on the day adds a little bit of fun to things.
One last thing about the donuts is that on my first visit I picked up a box of 6 to save until the evening so I could share them with my wife when she got home. It was a warm day so I stored them in the fridge. 6 hours later, the donut itself had lost a little of the softness and the coatings were, of course, cold and cracked in a pretty satisfying way. Some of the actual flavor to half of them was lost though - for example, the taro was indistinguishable to the strawberry but the matcha still had enough to come though. A later visit and I happened to catch the matcha coming out freshly resupplied and warm and WHOA BOY that was a delicious experience.
I've yet to try the hotdogs but the peach tea I had was lovely. Counting down the days until I'll be...
Read moreThe mochi donuts have a good texture and are very sweet like people have said in other reviews. The service was pretty slow when I went, and the woman working seemed to be unfamiliar with the whole setup, and would go looking for things/help in the back more than I would have expected for a place like this. Admittedly, service was slower because the customer ahead of me was on the phone trying to figure out the pickup order through a third party delivery platform and the restaurant really didn't know what was going on with it... but still, the worker was going back and forth from the drink station to the customer and not waiting for the full order before running off. I liked the brown sugar milk tea donut and the sesame donut but it just was a little bit of a slow somewhat disorganized experience to watch. I will come again to see if I have a different experience, and maybe to try to the...
Read moreI sincerely liked their mochi pon de ring donuts here at Mochi Ring!!! I've always enjoyed mochi donuts (Mr Donut), and I've had Mochinut and Dochi before. However, compared to Mochinut and Dochi I prefer Mochi Ring's flavors and fried texture. Other mochi donuts can seem too greasy and heavy while the flavor, aka the icing and toppings, are lacking. Mochi Ring had the perfect crisp and chew without feeling greasy, and the flavors were actually present and immediately recognizable. We had banana, ube, raspberry, black sesame, yuzu, and brown sugar milk tea- and they all tasted as they should! Granted, banana and raspberry tasted like the artificial flavors- but I still enjoyed them. I liked everything we got (which I rarely say lol).
The inside is cute and the staff is very friendly and efficient. You should stop by if...
