Mirror & Mantel — Local services in Philadelphia

Let me start by saying, I do not write this review lightly but I have had some time since my experience and wanted to share it, as others may find it helpful. I was getting my cut hair from long to short in August, about 6 inches off. The stylist at mirror and mantel was very nice but I was extremely disappointed with the cut. I asked for an angled bob and showed pictures. She stated she understood what I wanted. However, she gave me a very choppy, uneven bob, unlike the pictures I showed her and what I described. I did not say anything at the end of the haircut because what was done, was done. I also thought, well hair grows so maybe it will get better. It is now approaching December and I just had to cut my hair extremely short to try to even out the layers from the previous haircut. When I went to my new hairstylist today, she remarked on how uneven my previous haircut was. I am writing this review because I want anyone who goes to this salon to have a very detailed discussion with their stylist before moving forward with anything.

Update-I am editing this review and changing my rating from two stars to four stars, based on the response I received from the salon after posting my review. The salon owner called me shortly after I posted my review and apologized for my experience. They also refunded me for the haircut and offered another haircut if I was interested. I really appreciated them taking the time to address my concerns. I think it’s pretty rare a business cares this much about customer experience. With this response, I can tell that my experience was an outlier for them, not the norm. I will definitely be giving them...

Before coming to Mirror & Mantel, I was very nervous! I had just moved to Philadelphia and had been going to my previous salon for 12 years. However, I knew I had to find someplace local. I was referred by a friend and booked an appointment with LB. With great credentials (all stylists have a profile on their website) I knew she was more than qualified. Once I sat down with her I felt immediately at ease. She effortlessly did my cut and color and even convinced me to get some long layers I was apprehensive about. It looked amazing!

In addition to having an incredible experience with LB, the salon itself has such a cool feel. Its pretty minimalist with the decor but in a way that you know they're prioritizing their business to provide the best products. They use all organic and high end products but lines that you don't typically see. This place has mastered looking effortlessly cool while having very high end tools and products.

This place goes above and beyond to make their clients feel at home. My personal favorite is the jars of cookies/snacks around the salon as well as the Birch Box give and take where you can drop in anything you don't want from your Birch Box and chose something else- amazing idea!

Nicole is the absolute best. I used to have suuuuper long hair. Two years or so ago, I cut it all off. I searched best short haircut in Philly - and Mirror & Mantel came up. I blind called them, I've never gotten a haircut not at Hair Cuttery before I went to Mirror & Mantel. But let me tell you, this haircut was worth every penny. And all in all, is very reasonable. I barely have to use any product to make my hair stay the way I want it to! It's cut so well. And grows out so well. I just so happened to get scheduled with Nicole. The haircut she gave me changed my life and marked an important transition period in my life. I have been going back ever since. Nicole is so precise and really helps you achieve the vision you have for your hair. She helped to give me a very natural balayage that has worn well. These photos are from my first and second time ever getting highlights of any kind. Now, we are friends outside of haircutting, and it's the best!
