Moustaki Authentic Gyros — Restaurant in Philadelphia

First time eating here. Came by here unexpectedly since I was visiting the neighborhood. So glad I decided to stop in since the meal we had was PHENOMENAL!

Each food item had it's own flavor, non greasy, no meat smell, TASTED AMAZING!

I had the pork souvlaki plate and my husband had the lamb gyro plate and both tasted perfectly! Our sides were waffle fries, lemon potatoes and greek salad and pita bread - the bread was soft, fries and lemon potatoes had the perfect seasoning and the greek salad had feta cheese that was not salty at all the salad complimented the whole meal.

Then we added Loukoumades (Greek Donuts) with honey and sprinkled crumbled walnuts on top and WOW you have to try these and try them when they are warm - it wasn’t too sweet for us - just perfect after eating our meal.

I was told by the people working there that this is the first place that opened so the original Moustaki then other places opened up in the city center and fishtown area.

I know restaurants are having a difficult time right now , I don’t complain about the small stuff , but this place just made me mad. Delivery order total fail. I’m sick and being a person who lived in Astoria for a number of years all I wanted was avgolemona (Greek lemon chicken soup). I searched and searched and the only place who had it on the menu that was open on a Monday afternoon was Moustaki. I ordered a few other things for my spouse but the reason for the order was the soup. It arrived and was lentil soup , not avgolemona. The lentil soup was sideways and all liquid had leaked all over all of the food, through the bag and onto my floors . All other food In the order was soaked and inedible except for the salad. I called the restaurant. I was told they didn’t offer avgolemona so they substituted. I absolutely adore this place off of 21st and cherry street. I stumbled across this place just by driving by it many times wondering what this place is. I can honestly say this Greek jawn is definitely up there as far as over all good quality Greek Food. Not really a fan of French fries in my gyro, maybe it's a just me thing. Having the French fries in your gyro doesn't affect the integrity of it at all. Even though I'm not a full time local that lives in Center City But I know a good Greek establishment when I eat there. I highly recommend this place and for the locals that don't know about this place. Don't sleep on it. They also have a location in Fishtown too, but I'm closer to the 21st and cherry street location. The best way to have your food is through pick up or dine in. This establishment never disappoints no matter if you prefer vegetarian options or a chicken or lamb gyro.
