Sonny's Cocktail Joint — Restaurant in Philadelphia

My husband and I had drinks and dinner here on a busy weekday evening. He ordered Anchor 2021 winter ale, which he liked enough to order a second bottle. For dinner, he ordered an eggplant parmesan sub; he said that everything in it was good except for the mediocre marinara sauce. ("I'll give the sandwich a 'B'.") We shared sweet potato fries, which were delicious, the crispiest ones we have ever eaten. (He said, "I'll give these an 'A+'.") I had the fennel citrus salad. I had never eaten raw fennel, which I discovered that I do not like. The fennel slices were fibrous and gave my jaws a real workout; my husband said that coring the fennel first, before slicing it for the salad, would have gotten rid of the tough, fibrous parts. The salad contained far too much radicchio (that looks like purple cabbage) and only a few leaves of baby greens. It would have been better to minimize the fennel and radicchio, and to put in mostly baby greens. However, the slices of avocado, orange, and grapefruit in the salad were very good. We had the CLIT and the Green Monk drink — both were juicy, delicious, perfect. We only came for drinks but then… the dawg of the day was this copper sharp mac n cheese situation with BBQ sauce and fried onions, and the curly fries with pepperoncini aioli?? Unreal.

And then we blacked out and ordered the cheesey, gooey, crispy pesto cubanelle pizza and I have zero regrets.

We waited about 10 minutes for someone to take our order after asking if we should order at the bar or wait for a server. We ordered 2 cocktails. 25+ minutes after ordering, the drinks still hadn't arrived. We understand that Saturday nights can be busy, but they had to come back and ask us our drink order twice and served drinks to nearby tables that had ordered after we had.
