Before I get into my experience with this remarkable barber shop, I’d like to first tell you about the respectable, family-man who runs it; the head barber, Rob Melendez. Rob is one of the most authentic people that you will ever meet, which is welcome news because he is also a genuinely good person with a strong moral compass.

Rob takes great pride in his work, and there is NOT a barber in Philly who is more dedicated to his craft, or more detail-oriented and on-point than him.

So it comes as no surprise that this shop has the word “haven” in its name. It will be the refuge you seek after a tough day or a long week. It is certainly what we all need after an unimaginable year. It’s quiet and peaceful. On most days you will walk into a room with R&B, jazz or reggae lightly playing in the background, and a shop full of kind and compassionate people - including Rob’s lovely fiancé, Meleny, whom you all have to thank for the beautiful decor, and the calm ambiance that it subsequently creates.

Came here because of google reviews and let me say, they can’t be more true. Mel is a pleasure to work with through the booking process, very understanding, flexible, and hospitable. When you first enter the shop, both Mel and Rob greet you with open arms and it being my first time, helped me feel welcomed with a coffee and good conversation. The haircut itself was great. Before even grabbing the clippers, Rob made sure we were on the same page of how we envisioned the haircut to look. He’s meticulous and detail-oriented, and it shows in how he approaches the cut and how the end-product looks. I called last minute today to see if I could come in as a walk-in and I was graciously accepted. As soon as I walked in the door Rob greeted me and soon after offered me water and coffee as he was tending to another client. I was a little hesitant to try for a walk-in especially as a new client as I know how busy things can get this time of year but I was made to feel comfortable immediately.

The entire vibe of the place is relaxing and conversation with Rob during my cut was great. I always get a tight fade and it’s very rare that it’s done to perfection.
