We were eager to try a good cheesesteak while in Philly and had seen Woodrow's great reviews. We ordered a few cheesesteaks and turkey subs along with some cajun and regular fries. The food was delicious but we did have some issues with the orders.
You have to order via QR code and can click "no __" for various ingredients on the sandwiches. My daughter just wanted turkey and cheese on her sub so I clicked all the "no" boxes to indicate she wanted none of the toppings; her sub came out with a lettuce mix on it and when I took it up to ask, I was informed that it "came with lettuce" but the only greens ingredient listed to click when I ordered was "no arugula." I explained that I clicked all the boxes indicating she wanted none of the listed toppings but no apology or solution was given; I asked if they could give me a plate so I could remove the lettuce or either if they could remove it; they did take it back and took off most of the lettuce. Unfortunately, my picky eater would still not touch the $15 sub because of the lettuce remnants (picky, I know; but it should have been plain in the first place). I next realized one of our cheesesteaks that was supposed to be loaded was plain (steak and cheese only) but after the abovenoted problem, I didn't bother to take it up to ask for the additional toppings.
We asked for a few cups of water after finishing our canned and bottled drinks and the worker walked away to get one cup before we could tell her we needed a few (it is a heat wave this week); we had to go back again and ask. She was fairly friendly when approached but seemed distracted throughout our visit; her earbuds were visible so I'm unsure if she was listening to music.
Overall, the food was delicious. We will probably try another sandwich shop again on our next trip in search of more attentive and friendly service, but if we do visit again, perhaps I need to try to order at the counter (although this is not how they ask you to order) to specify exactly what I want on each sub to...
Read moreLet me start by saying is that I love Woodrow. But completely disappointed with service today. I payed online for a sandwich with tip, requesting a pickup time for 2:05pm. Knowing that I was driving in from NYC and did not want to have a soggy sandwich if ordered too early. I purposely asked for a specific pickup time so my sandwich would not sit and wait while I drive to the location.
I got a text at 1:50pm letting me know my orders is ready. 15 minutes before my expected arrival. I expected a text maybe 5 min before my arrival but not 15 minutes. Ordering the very cheese Philly Cheesesteak, I was trying to ovoid a soggy condensation sandwich by all means necessary.
When I asked during pickup at 2:05 if it’s policy for a sandwich to prepared/completed 15 minutes before patrons arrival, very rude young lady told me yes with a straight face. Which I know is a complete lie because I have ordered Woodrow’s ever since Covid and never have they had a sandwich ready 15 minutes early before expected pickup time. I would have appreciated if she would have told me apologies and the staff did not pay attention to pickup time request.
I don’t know of one person who wants to eat a sandwich that has been sitting for 15 minutes buying up sogginess in the bread, extremely disappointed.
Please have the employees pay attention to pickup time. Because driving from NYC pregnant and hungry, I was very...
Read moreListen, when it comes to cheesesteaks in Philly everyone has their allegiances. Pat's, Jim's, Tony's, whatever it is. Moving forward, my allegiance is to Woodrow's.
tl;dr; - Just go and eat here.
A cheesesteak consists of four things in my opinion, as described below. If you like these things, then you should go to this place.
The bread is soft, but still held everything together. I don't like when bread leaves scratches on the roof of my mouth, and I don't like when everything falls apart. Neither were a problem here.
The steak. There was plenty of it. It was chopped up. It was grilled. It was tender, but not dripping in cheesesteak juice or grease or whatever that stuff is on inferior cheesesteaks.
I don't like whiz, but I will dream of their homemade whiz every time I eat a cheesesteak from now on. If you really like the gooey kraft stuff, you may not like this. But this is better.
The toppings. Honestly, I was so consumed in the first three things I can't even remember what I got on the thing. Onions? Yeah, onions. I guess?
As for the service - it was perfectly reasonable cheesesteak service. You order via QR code. People were nice.
Atmosphere - it's a cheesesteak place. It is small and smells like cheesesteaks. What do people expect, five star dining? Don't expect that. The atmosphere is perfect. They have a Dinosaur Jr. poster. How could it...
