Driving by recently we noticed that "Gus's World Famous Chicken" was coming to this spot. (Intrigued, we made mental note)
On my vacation looking for a new spot to try and remembered Gus's new location. š¤š Just opened on April 17th.
We walked in, immediately greeted by a friendly host "Ilan" then seated in a casual dining area. Blue and white plastic picnic style tablecloths, mismatched chairs (very kickback) . The walls displayed the history of Gus's World Famous Chicken from Memphis Tennessee.
The menu is simple and straightforward.

We started with fried pickle spears, fried green tomatoes and a small side of potato salad.
FIRST PRIZE WINNER GOES TO THE POTATO SALAD! MVP Its FiREš„ and our absolute favorite! šÆ brought back childhood memories of family gatherings with homemade potato salad from my mother.
Decided to order chicken only instead of a meal since we already had appetizers. ā Ilan our host explained that the chicken is spicy a 4 to 5 level but the tenders were not as spicy.
Chicken came out fresh, hot š„ smelled and looked amazing! Tried a breast and leg. Chicken coating was not thick or crusted with a heavy coating. Instead it was juicy, flavorful with a kick of heat (cayenne). We could tell it was brined and marinated to lock in the flavor. The pieces of chicken were large and we took the rest home and added an extra large potato salad to go.
We ordered diet Coke comes in a souvenir cup (refills discounted on future visuts .50 cents) (*Gus's please consider upgrading to Coke Zero Sugar tastes SO much better)
They let you sign their guest book too (which was really a cute idea)
I would like to return to try out the greens, okra and mac and cheese.
Recommend a two piece for sure (three if you're...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe decided to stop and try Gus's World famous fried chicken and were pleasantly surprised. They live up to their namesake! You walk in and seat yourself, open dining room layout. Kinda gives you a feeling of a family function,an aunt's kitchen. The waitress was super nice and very helpful. We tried as much food as possible on this first visit. The waitress let us know that the usual wait time after ordering is 15-20 minutes. She also let us know that the chicken seasoning is kind of spicy. We started with Fried pickles and fried tomatoes. Warning every single item coming to your table is piping hot! The type of hot that melts the roof of your mouth,so wait a few minutes before even taking a bite. The fried pickles were perfect, crunchy and juicy. We've never had fried tomatoes but those were also delicious and perfectly cooked. Next up the fried chicken, definitely world famous!!! Extra crispy, extra juicy and a unique blend of spices. Warning, this blend is spicy! I can handle some heat but this blend hit me hard. The chicken was partnered with some Mac n cheese and fried okra. The Mac n cheese was just okay, the okra was good. Also decided to try a new menu item, Catfish with fries. The catfish was sliced nice and thin, fried perfectly with a delicious crunch. The fries were also crispy with a season salt sprinkle. Every single item had some type of crisp,no soggy nonsense on any plate. Definitely will return, great HOT food with a pleasant staff. Almost forgot to mention the Sweet tea, this is a must...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been here many times and keep coming back as this is my go to place for fried chicken. I recommend the chicken thighs and chicken tenders. They are fried to order and come out very hot, so be careful. For starters, I recommend the fried pickles, always good with wonderful ranch. The fried green tomatoes are also sometimes good, depends on the quality of the tomato. The mac & cheese is very creamy and my preferred side along with the coleslaw and beans. I don't recommend the collard greens or the potato salad, both need more seasoning/flavor. Fries are good as long as I request them without the seasoning (don't like the sweetness, assuming there is sugar in it) and prefer them only with salt. Fried okra is great if you like okra. The chess pies are amazing, especially if you take it home and heat it up.
The only negative for me is the lighting. I prefer dining in and the overhead lighting is just too bright. This place would attract more diners, especially at night, if they changed the lighting or dimmed them down and perhaps had candles on the tables, real or fake (hint hint).
The service is always consistently friendly and efficient. The wines that come in a can are...
