Dinner on 1/30/25 (6 adults, 2 toddlers ) The experience was so crazy I didn’t even take any pictures as I was trying to be present for the celebration at the same time being blown away by the experience. We ordered 6 burgers, 3 fries and 1 chicken finger and 5 sodas and 1 water. 1-The sodas/ and water came out completely warm. (Not cool, not brisk…. Warm. ) Not to mention The water was bottled. I was never told or given the choice obviously for two dollars I wouldn’t have ordered a warm bottle of water. 2-The food took about 45 minutes (it was a Thursday at 6pm FYI) The food came on one single tray literally piled up With no Instructions about who’s burger was who’s…no Utensils or extra plates. Everything was in “to go” packaging. 3-The ladies bathroom had no cold water, therefore our child was not able to clean her hands without a burn (I have to assume this was part of the issue why they were recently closed down by the food and health board)
Overall, the experience was like something I’ve never actually had… We all sat there in disbelief. We were so dumbfounded we still left 20% tip despite the horrible experience. ($25)
Days later, I consider grabbing a single burger to go just to see if it was an isolated incident… Except it turns out the Internet said they were open… the social media said they were open except they were not (wasted time and gas to travel there )…because they have been closed down For health violations!! Why didn’t someone push a couple buttons to update social media and Google? And just in case anyone’s going to use the excuse of the restaurant being new, this excuse is absolutely invalid. They have other locations previously opened to test the System…. They had been open for a couple of weeks before our arrival… And it’s also the reason restaurants have a soft opening.
Taste ? Not too bad …BUT considering a $13 Burger that comes smashed and steamed out in to go packaging when you sit in the restaurant … I must say, I did not see the value of Horrible service and Questionable health practices for thee couples / two kids at $120 For a single tray of...
Read moreMy daughter and I came here for lunch on Monday, March 31st and arrived roughly 15 minutes after the restaurant opened. We walked in the front door and we were greeted by a gentleman who was on the phone speaking to someone else who worked at the restaurant. The person on the phone indicated that they wouldn't be able to start serving food until at least 11:30. This, was a pretty poor first impression for our first visit. My daughter and I went out to the car and considered other options, but decided that we would stick around and give them a second chance. For reference, they open at 11:00. A.m..
We are glad that we ultimately stayed because the Philly cheesesteak was excellent. We also really enjoyed the fries and the bottled beverage. The vibe of the restaurant is really nice as well. I'm kind of happy that I don't live nearby, cuz I would probably eat here very often and gain weight. Loved the sesame seed bun, and the steak was frizzled to perfection with the appropriate amount of cheese making it a gooey delight. Fries were crispy and we got some cheese sauce slathered over the top, because why not?
So although we had a pretty disappointing first impression, the food was definitely worth it. I was hoping when the bill came that they would have given me some sort of a reasonable discount for the inconvenience. We were traveling through King of Prussia in order to get back to York, so this delayed us an additional 15 to 20 minutes that we weren't expecting. If you're open at 11:00, be open at 11:00.
**Update 5/4/2025: I have been back to Cousin's twice now, for a total of three visits. I have had to cheesesteaks and one double smash burger. I will preface what I'm about to say with, "I am a very critical person when it comes to food." That said, it is really hard to find a flaw with either the burger or the cheesesteak. I very highly recommend giving Cousin's a shot. I still stand by my original post, and still think the service/atmosphere feels a little weird, but the food is premium-tier. Plus, it can always be...
Read moreUpdate: After trying some more spots around town, we think Cousin's Burger definitely has the best burgers in the area. We sometimes order a double burger for takeout when we're in the mood for a good greasy burger. We are less impressed by the appetizers, which are not very fresh and drowned in mayo. Still, we appreciate the quality of the burgers here and think those are worth the price.
Great burgers, weird vibe.
What I got from the outside: a budget pub serving giant portions of greasy American food (that says it does not serve food at 4 PM)
What I got from the entrance: a sporty gastropub (that is serving food at 4 PM)
What I got from the inside: a sleek but soulless corporate franchise playing finance bro music
What I got from the service: a local mom and pop that uses their kids for labor
What I got from the menu: a fast-ish food diner that has an unusual respect for Muslims and quality beef?
What I actually got: A clean, color-coordinated, hastily painted booth by a sunny old window overlooking a parking lot. A good quality burger for $10 that I enjoyed rapturously for the two minutes it took to disappear into my mouth. A faint hunger, like I'd eaten a "small plate" at a fancy New American restaurant. (No fries--fries are a la carte at $4.) An awkward post-meal explanation from the eager waiter that we should've probably gone for at least a double burger, or maybe two singles, or maybe ordered half the appetizers on the menu. A mixed feeling of gastric satisfaction and social anxiety, like a cute first date with too many identity issues...
