I used to come to this place for the lamb gyro, fries and a drink special when I started work in 1992. This place is still going strong, even though Manny has retired his assistant Mike has taken over now helped by his son Dom. The service these guys provide is exceptional, they treat you like family and take pride in the food they make and serve. The specials are a great deal and I love getting the gyro, fries and a box of iced tea. The food and friendly service is good. If you are downtown and want a great gyro special, this place is a must try. They kept their prices reasonable so that we can continue to enjoy this great lunch/dinner spot. For the price, the gyro plate cannot beat either.

I love a good established dive in any city, and Mike & Tony’s is no exception. This is a no-nonsense, counter-service, cash-only joint that slings some of the heftiest, tastiest gyros I’ve ever had. And can we talk about the fries? If my eyes don’t deceive me, they double-fry them—crisp, golden brown on the outside, with that deep, savory flavor that can only come from a fryer that’s seen some things. Has the oil been changed this decade? Who’s to say—but I mean that in the best possible way. If you find yourself in downtown Pittsburgh, don’t miss this place. BRING CASH. You won’t need much—prices are super reasonable, and the portions are more than generous.

My husband wanted to grab a gyro, but after looking at the menu and seeing french fries, I totally poo-poo’d his decision. We went anyway— I ordered the pierogis as a snack, he got the gyro meal and fried mushrooms. Everything was very tasty. He was impressed with the amount of meat they used (see photos). The guys at the counter were very helpful and friendly, adding to our positive experience.

If there were any way for me to write a review and include no stars, I would have. My daughter and I went here for lunch. My daughter ordered the food ahead. Once we arrived, No one asked us if they could help us or anything. I understand it's not an upscale type establishment, but hospitality would have certainly been appreciated. After standing there for a few min.. my daughter attempted to get someone's attention by announcing "excuse me I placed an order"??? One gentleman ( and I use that term loosely) turned around and responded "Over there!" while pointing??? Seriously??!! We assumed he meant the line to the right of us and got in line. Once it was our turn, my daughter announced she had an order and gave her name. Before the gentleman gave us our order, he told her they only take cash, but there was an ATM behind us. She asked for the total and he yelled out $20. While she retrieved the cash, I asked if we could just sit down and eat and the gentleman answered "We could do that this one time, but they normally don't allow that and will yell..." I answered "Really"?? and he responded "Yeah" My daughter went to pay him. He took the cash and gave her a brown paper bag packed with food. She reached inside only to discover the fries were cold and asked for fresh fries. He answered "No". My daughter asked to speak with the Manager and he answered "I am the Manager"! My daughter did what any self respecting Patron would do, and asked for her money back. While we were leaving, he yelled "You won't be able to order again"! Twilight zone experience!! Who said we would ever want to come back?!? Save your money and time! Customer service is nonexistent...

Service is DIRT!!!! If you want or need to be completely ignored or talked down to, THIS is the place!!! You are NOT welcome here and your money is no good if you are a person of color (particularly black). The "manager" asked everyone around me what they wanted to order. When I spoke up and asked if I could order, he (manager) said "What do you want?!? I'm not a mind reader! And when two Pittsburgh police said that I was next and he shouldn't talk to me like that and, to wait on me next, he (manager) said I'm not a referee. Then the manager and the guy making my sandwich, proceed to laughed out loud at my order and say out loud "Who orders a sanwich like this?"...THIS business will NEVER get ONE cent from me EVER! Even if it's the LAST place left in the city to get food...PERIOD!

As a response to the owner: I know EXACTLY where your establishment is located on Liberty avenue in downtown Pittsburgh as I work for a business down the street. And YOU sir are a liar! Your replies are generic and aren't heartfelt. Just own up to your piss poor attitude and treatment of patrons. Treat people with kindness and appreciation...it...

I visited this location today to grab some food before I left the city. First off soon as you walk in it has a funny smell that I didn’t like. I pushed passed that and continued to open the second door to go in the restaurant. I went to the counter and the dude didn’t even say hello I had to say something for the guy to even acknowledge me. I put my order in and the guy ask if that was for here or to go and I said can you wrap that up but I’m going to eat some here the guy rudely says “well that’s for here” and I stated well I would like to take some to go so can you wrap it up, I continued to ask him if I get it for here and I would like a to go box will you give me one, he huffed and puffed, so at that point I left because his attitude stunk just as bad as their entrance. Never had to fight over no aluminum foil or paper bag before a day in my life!

Highly suggest going to any other location...
