Very, very disappointed. Went with my GF who is from the city this restaurant claims to be inspired from, Chongqing, and left very disappointed.
We ordered the fish ($40!). It was very small, compared to the menu photo, and boney. Mostly vegetables were not cooked to satisfaction. The rice was dry and bland, and even the fried rice cake appetizer was soggy and tasteless.
One of the weirder details was the fact that they had part of one single song on repeat the whole time we were there. So no ambiance at all.
The waitress also spoke no English at al, so it was impossible to communicate with her.
We spent $60+ on this little lunch.
I’m so angry that a restaurant could think to charge of premium of people’s hard earned money with food and service that is below standard.
I could get a bigger, higher quality fish at Uncle Zhou’s in North Plano, off of Preston and Headquarters (121 area), for less than the $40 I sent on this tiny creature.
I called to speak to the manager 5 mins after leaving (there was no manager, “supposedly”) and the supervisor who I spoke to was very defensive and sarcastic.
Among so much competition this is an opportunity for improvement. This is the second Chinese restaurant in this area (I75 and Parker) that has really disappointed me (the first one being Bamboo House). Please do better. The name “Chongqing” must be held to a...
Read moreFlavorful Sichuan style Chinese food. Quantity was appropriate for the price, although the beef dish was the most expensive and for this I would've expected more. Got: Thinly sliced beef with pepper, pork with bamboo shoots, combination fried rice, and fish with salt & pepper. Also got fried rice cake with brown sugar syrup. My favorite dish was the fish with salt & pepper, it was perfectly crispy and seasoned. The pork and beef were too salty for my liking, and are best eaten with white rice which I unfortunately didn't have since it cost $1 for and I didn't want to spend extra money on rice if I was gonna have fried rice. Fried Rice was a huge quantity but it correlated well with the asking price so I can't be upset with it but I did wish for a little more meat, but overall flavor was fine. The service was good and the workers were attentive. The fried rice cake wasn't as great as I was expecting. I would've wanted a crisper exterior with the mushy, soft interior, inside the outside was still pretty soft. The brown sugar syrup was too sweet for my liking and I wanted to have it watered down. Overall, a nice...
Read moreOverall we were very happy with our experience but the food compared to Royal Sichuan can be bland and i dont taste or see any sichuan peppercorn which is odd.. they use less chiles as well. The chicken and bamboo dish we had was bland. Royal Sichuan has been my favorite restaurant for Sichuan cuisine for many years. It seems to be getting a bit worse so i was hoping to find a replacement. This place will do for a replacement even though some things I do prefer at royal Sichuan like the lamb cumin.. not nearly enough cumin here. But i loved the beef here, melts in your mouth for the most part. The people running the restaurant were eating at a table while we were there. That was a bit weird you have to interrupt their meal to talk to them. I will be back here eventually but I will also try a few other places near around to see if I like them more. This place also more expensive FYI. My 4 year old girl ordered eggs and shrimp which was very unusual for her.. meanwhile it was amazing.. eggs cooked to perfection and so...
