I have always been a huge Cafe Rio fan. Anytime the debate of costa vida or cafe Rio I was always the one advocating for cafe Rio and why it’s so much better than costa. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY CAFE RIO SUCKS NOW. We get to there and the kiosk doesn’t work with rewards points on the app(come on, even McDonald’s does that), but no biggy, they’re not even busy so we’ll just get some assistance from the staff. After waiting a few minutes for someone to actually help us they come over and we give them the order and LO AND BEHOLD, THEY ARE OUT OF SWEET PORK and need to heat some up even though they don’t seem to be busy and people just seem to be standing around. Granted the staff were friendly and not rude so I appreciate that. So we wait another 10 minutes and finally get our food. We go home open our food to eat and there is a LIVING LADY BUG just crawling around one of our salads! A BUG IN OUR SALAD?! Come on Cafe Rio! What the heck??? How could you have stooped this low!? We call them to ask for a refund because neither of us really feels like eating these salads anymore and they blame it on the supplier but say they’ll give us a refund. However the lettuce in these salads was obviously not cut or washed well because the pieces were way bigger than usual and they was a freaking lady bug in them! Maybe that’s the supplier’s fault and in that case get a new supplier. You don’t see Costa struggling in that regard. No kidding, went to Costa Vida after because we’re still hungry (obviously) and I kid you not, we were in and out of there in 3 MINUTES!!! Not just a fast three minutes but also with MUCH MUCH BETTER AND FRESHER looking food. Tasted way better too. There’s just NO EXCUSE! I feel like Obiwan talking to Anakin dying on the side of a hill on the planet mustafar: “You were like [my Favorite Cafe Rio], I loved you!” So ya. Do better dang it. P.S. Your horchata tastes like Cinnamon Toast Crunch milk which is kinda nice but not horchata

My wife and I work near this Café Rio, so it’s been our go-to spot for convenience—but after repeated letdowns, I can’t stay silent. The service here isn’t just subpar; it’s consistently abysmal. Take portion sizes: you ask for something simple like chips on the side, and they toss in a pitiful handful that barely dusts the bottom of the tiny queso container. We’ve requested extra lettuce multiple times, hoping for a generous topping, and instead get a measly few strands—hardly enough to call it a garnish, let alone a serving. A “normal” amount? I’d expect at least a decent scoop of chips and a hearty pile of lettuce, not this stingy, laughable excuse for portions. Then there’s the wait. Our last drive-thru visit had us trapped for a full 20 minutes—no exaggeration—just to get our food. Twenty minutes for what should be quick fare is inexcusable. If this were a one-off flop, I’d shrug it off, but it’s a pattern. The staff seems indifferent, the execution sloppy, and the experience draining. For comparison, the Café Rio five-ten minutes down the road actually delivers what you’d expect: decent portions and service that doesn’t test your patience. Save yourself the frustration and skip this location. UPDATE: Can it get any worse? I just found a hair at the bottom of my food. Disgusting.

Our recent experience at this Cafe Rio location was beyond disappointing. Went to this Cafe Rio on Sunday around 8:10pm with a group of 15 (they close at 10pm). As soon as we walked in, one of the workers got on the headset and warned everyone about us like we were a problem. Staff was whispering, clearly not happy to help. When I ordered a red sauce enchilada, I was told they were out because the “sauce guy” was on break. Then the so-called manager, Ayanna, jumped in with a totally different story — that the sauce delivery comes the next day. Neither of them seemed to care about helping, just wanted us to leave. The food line was a mess — crumbs, spills, just dirty overall. I’ve been coming here for 2 years and never seen it like this. We ended up canceling our order and went to the American Fork location instead, where they welcomed us with a smile and made great food. Management at this location seriously needs to evaluate Ayanna’s professionalism and leadership. If this is the kind of experience guests get before closing time, you will absolutely lose loyal customers. Big difference in how the two locations treat people.

Been tracking this locations reviews in hopes that they would improve but it appears they are not improving.

I think it's nuts that they have a 4.0 when most of their reviews are one stars. There seems to be a pattern of multiple five star reviews with no comments or just stating great food which contradicts all the other feedback. Almost as if they are purchasing positive reviews.

Owner keeps stating they will give our feedback to their staff, but the location continues to get worse.

I would advise you not to go to this location and go to another Cafe Rio. I've been going to American fork and have been pleased everytime.

Update: husband convinced me to give them another shot. Strike 1: they were out of black beans at 8 o clock when they close at 11. As I moved closer to the cash register I noticed they did have black beans in another section of the serving area. How lazy Strike 2: the queso was cold and grainy and the chips chewy and soft. Had to get a refund because it was so bad and they didn't have more queso????? Strike 3: food warmers seem to be failing at this location Because my burrito sauce was cold and the food lukewarm. Same thing happened when I reviewed this location last.

Hope the manager sees this and does something to make this right because I'm not impressed. Will be going to american fork or orem and avoiding this location.

First time we went was great. 2nd time great. 3rd time awful. The biggest motivation to get cafe rio is their nice filled burritos.

Well went through the drive thru and when I got home the burrito had maybe a fourth cup of filling, 2 pieces of meat, and was mainly dry tortilla when I asked for enchilada style. The tortilla reminded me of a store bought tortilla.

Asked for double meat. Paid for it and didn't get it..

Pinto beans not cooked.

Oh and the food was cold when I live 3 min away.

Suffice to say I'm pretty...

Just lost at least two customers for life, and I'll be telling anyone who asks not to go to Cafe Rio. I actually tried to call customer care to talk through things before posting this, but I was told there is actually no feedback system for customers (which I highly doubt), but I guess this is the best alternative and possibly more effective?

My wife waited 25 minutes in the drive thru to order, paid at the first window, and then was told to pay again when she pulled to the second window. Despite being a little disappointed by the long wait time, she politely said she'd already paid and asked them to please check their system, as the worker who took her payment had not offered a receipt.

The second worker was incredulous and fairly hostile, claiming that she hadn't paid, saying, "Congratulations," sarcastically to her explanation that she paid at the last window. He continued to ask for payment before making a few more rude remarks under his breath, closing the window in a huff, opening it again a few minutes later, and exclaiming, "Whatever, just go!" while pointing ahead.

My wife was obviously frustrated with how he was handling the situation. She told him his behavior was unprofessional, which was probably the nicest thing she could have said at this point, to which he loudly replied, "You think I'm unprofessional. You can LEAVE!" and closed the window.

I honestly can't think of a worse customer service experience in the past two to three years. Harassing behavior like this is intentional. It's also a reflection of the company and brand.

As a side note, we were able to confirm through our bank that we did pay $11.62 for a poorly packaged lukewarm...
