My friend and I keep our eye out for new places to enjoy lunch. Today, we went to Wok The Line to see what it was all about. Here's what I thought about the newest addition to the Pleasant Grove/Lindon food scene...
Long story short, the food was good but the prices high. My friend, who liked the food even more than I did, agreed that the value for the money just wasn't there. I know what you're thinking, "Customers in Utah County are cheapskates."
Yes, they are. And no, I am not. I have no problem paying for quality and do it all the time. The problem here was that what should have realistically been a $10 bowl of stir fry noodles was $15.
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful. They made recommendations and explained the various sauces and menu items The food was freshly prepped and tasted good There was a variety of combinations - fried rice, steamed rice, noodles, chicken, steak, tofu, etc. Lots of different vegetables to add to your bowl. The sauces were lovely. I had teriyaki and my friend garlic chili and he let me have a bite. Both were tasty.
Cons: The price for the food was simply too high. I expected this place to be in line with most fast-casual, fresh food dining places, where you walk out with a healthy, delicious meal for around $10, add $2 for a drink. But this was $5 more than that and didn't include a drink. My friend paid $17 for his meal with a drink, which we both agreed was crazy. They limited the number of vegetables you could add to your bowl to 5. Why not let the customer do as many as they want, but slightly reduce the amount of each? Felt needlessly limiting. There didn't appear to be any soy sauce on the tables or by the utensils. Kind of a standard thing at this kind of restaurant, but it was missing here.
Ultimately, I think this place will fail unless they quickly adjust their prices to be more in line with Asian Zao Cafe, Cafe Rio, or other similar fast-casual "freshtaurants." People in Utah County just aren't going to repeatedly plop down $15-17 for a stir fry bowl. The word of mouth for Wok The Line will be, "It was good, but it was really expensive." That will be the kiss of death resulting in few initial customers and fewer...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI highly recommend Wok the Line. This was our first time here and it did not disappoint- it only made me wonder why I hadnāt been here sooner.
The menu is easy to understand and the ordering system is easy to follow. You order, pay, and then sit and wait for your food. We came on a Saturday night and there were maybe a handful of people ahead of us. There were three employees, only one was on the wok preparing the food. It looked understaffed.
We ended up waiting over 40 minutes for our food. When we got our food, I discovered that my order was incorrect. I took it up to the cashier and he said it was their mistake and they are understaffed. He said they would get my correct order out soon. I waited another 15 minutes or so for my correct order. The young man apologized for the wait, brought us some egg rolls and wontons, and said he was going to refund our order for the wait and mistakes. We really appreciated that and felt he handled the situation very well. I liked the ownership.
I think the food is delicious. Itās fresh, flavorful, and I love the fact itās made in an open kitchen and made to order. They have a lot of sauce options too. The portions are generous for the price. I can see myself coming here more often now that I know how great it is.
I do wish, because it was about an hour or so wait total for my food, that they told you upfront how long the wait would be. I know and understand that a lot of small business are understaffed. I love supporting local but do wish there was some transparency upfront about the wait time. Thatās all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWok the Line is by far the BEST Asian restaurant in Utah County. Not only is it a fun spin on casual Asian dining, but such a refreshing change of pace from the burger and sandwich joints popping up everywhere. Where do I start... super helpful and friendly staff that made on point suggestions. Itās like they knew exactly what I was wanting. THE FOOD! Holy moly the ingredients are so fresh! The veggies are not frozen/soggy like you would find at the Panda Express on the corner, that has dominated the Asian food market for far too long. I put my stamp of approval on the noodle, with the chicken, and the Utah sauce. The Utah sauce is a fun Asian twist of the beloved fry sauce, and is nothing short of perfect. My final thought on the food is that it just feels healthy. My tummy just feels happy after eating there. Finally, I saw some other reviews that people thought it was over priced. Iām glad I didnāt listen to them and checked it out myself. The portions are huge! I got the Large bowl, because Iām a large person. I could easily save my left overs and get a second meal out of it. If you want to spend less, I suggest getting a smaller bowl, or getting their ādeal of the weekā. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. There is no way I could ever return to a Panda Express, or one of those sweaty āauthenticā Asian restaurants again. I am all in on Wok the Line!
Hope this review helps, just check it out...
