Had really high hopes but was so disappointed in our experience. My husband and I went in for Valentine’s Day. As parents, we rarely get to go out so we were really looking forward to this. We were sat at our table and the server did not come over until about 5 minutes afterwards at which point we were met with “did you guys want to put in drinks?” No greeting, no explanation of menu, nothing but that. We both have worked in the industry for a long time so were immediately thrown off by the lack of even a “Hello”. My husband replied “Hi, how are you?” And the server replied “oh sorry, the bar is just really slow to get drinks out right now so if you want drinks, the sooner you order the better”. And that AGAIN threw us off; pretty unprofessional thing to say about your own team. We ordered drinks, and the drinks were slow to come out but were good. The server then asked what we wanted to order, and the first item we tried to put in was not available and the server said “don’t worry, they’re really not that good here anyways”. I thought that was so unprofessional to say. So at this point, not only have you insulted the bar but you’ve now insulted the kitchen. And again, my husband and I have both worked in restaurants and bars for a long time so we generally give so much grace to folks in this industry because we all have off nights but this was just wild. We put our food order in and still did not have water at the table. And after we finally did get water, our server never refilled it. Another server did at one point, a woman who was really kind and friendly. While waiting for the food, a food runner kept continually stopping at our table and asking if we ordered the dishes he was carrying, and the majority of time time it was not our food. So he continued to stop at every single table asking if it was theirs until he found the right table. This was disruptive to our conversation and we could hear other guests making remarks about it as well. When the food came, it was pretty good and that was the saving grace. It seems like back of house has it figured out but front of house does not. The manager did come to our table twice to check in, both times I simply said “the food is great, thank you so much!” But the second time I said that, the manager could sense that the food was great but something else was not so asked “and the service?” to which I relayed the above info. I really did not want to but it was that dissatisfying. The manager was professional and gracious, and he did remove a round of drinks from the bill. But we left feeling so bummed… we seldom get to go out so when we do, and it’s this disappointing, that’s really unfortunate. Our server made us feel like we were a bother to him, he barely spoke to us, and even at one point ignored us when he brought one of the drinks out and my husband said “wow, that looks great, thank you so much” he literally just turned and walked away. It was so bizarre. His attitude and professionalism was incredibly lacking which is so unfortunate for the back of house because again, the food was good but that means very little when both FOH and BOH aren’t at the same caliber. I wish we had chosen somewhere else, and we...
Read moreWhat a restaurant! I have been to this gem twice - once for a moms and teenage daughters girls' night and once on a date night.
First, the decor. Unique, fun - it feels edgy, but classy. Expertly done and check out the stairs as you head upstairs to the dining room! We loved the colors and the rich, fun ambience.
The service was top notch - from the hostess, to our incredible waitress and the general manager came to check on us. We wanted for nothing!
Finally - the FOOD! Wow. Like every Chef Johnny Sheehan restaurant, this food is some of the best I've ever eaten. The tuna tartare was perhaps the best food we have ever eaten in our lives. I loved the vegan veggie tacos. The short rib empanadas changed my husband's life. My husband could not get enough of the albondigas. I don't drink much, but the En Claro was so delicious that I had three! Wow! What a drink! Multi-dimensional and not overly boozy.
My daughter is vegetarian and I'm vegan and there were so many delicious options for us - and options the omnivores loved, too. We didn't feel like we were dining in the margins with our party - the vegan and vegetarian options integrate beautifully with all the food. Similarly, one of the moms doesn't drink and she had several mocktails to choose from and tried two - she loved both!
Overall, Salena felt like a high-end night out along the coast in Uruguay. I cannot wait to...
Read moreWe were excited to try this new restaurant and were not disappointed! We sat at the upstairs, large wrap around bar and enjoyed the view, drinks and service provided by Richie! We started with the ALBONDIGAS, mini meatballs that was the perfect starter, sharing plate. The meatballs were delish only to be outdone by the sauce which we sopped up with the toasted baguette it was served with. The ARROZ CHAUFA is the dish that will bring us back! The freshest and tastiest rice dish we have had (you can see their sister restaurants Salt influence here and it’s a winner) It’s more of a deconstructed fried rice surrounded by fresh vegetables and other more traditional fried rice ingredients. This is a large, family portion, served with plenty of tortillas to hug your buildable tacos if desired. We are looking forward to leftovers today!! Our only drawback was the cheap, plastic like plates. They are black and resemble stoneware but are noisy to cut on, flimsy and not very stable. It’s got to be good, if the plates were our only...
