This place used to be my favorite restaurant to recommend. The first two times was great. Food, drinks, service, the aesthetics etc. These last two times though were disappointing. When my sister and I were here, I was going to shrug off the weird interaction we had with our host. Basically she sat us down and left us to have our conversations, but then came back less than a minute later and said, “Would you hate me if I moved you to a different table?” We had no problem moving but it came off prematurely defensive to us plus there was no explanation as to why nor an apology. We saw right after changing tables that a bigger party was seated at our previous one. Had this been the only issue I wouldn’t be writing this review.
My last time was today ordering food online for me and my husband. I saw the dessert “seasonal berry empanadas” on the Google menu and there were instructions to ask your server what they were, so we called. They told us it would be apple. I thought, “Great! Not a berry but I do love apples.” We ordered it through DoorDash and it said “mixed berry empanadas” on their menu. There were no other choices for these dessert empanadas so I decided to take the restaurant’s word on that instead of DoorDash. Well, it actually was blueberry. The only fruit I hate. I understand mistakes happen but I wanted them to know one of their staff members was either misinformed or was giving incomplete information on that dessert, so I called the restaurant. At first they asked if I wanted to order it again but I told them I didn’t have time to get another one and asked if it was possible for me to have ordered apple after all. The staff member on the phone said something to the effect, “Well, online it does say mixed berry.” Okay, fine. It’s mixed berry, but your staff said it was apple and ONLY apple. What bothers me though is that there was no apology nor any assurance given that they would try to correct the issue with the mix up. I ended the call feeling stupid for even trying to inform them of the issue. Luckily, it was only a fruit I hate and not one I was allergic to. My husband ate the empanadas and I stuck with the ice cream it came with.
To summarize, I think the staff at this restaurant could use some customer service training. I hope when I try this place again in the future my experience will be...
Read moreI'm being generous. The outside looked like a great place to chill. Bar, heaters. Cozy little area with fire. Inside it looked nice enough. Saturday at the bar since I checked it out alone. Bartender was nice and timely to get drink. Drink came fast but was underwhelming. 3 sips and then the flavor turned into watered down. It was a spicy pinarita. Those first sips were good though. Was never asked if wanted or offered water. My order was taken. The reg salsa was bland and the chips hard and cold. Didn't want but never was offered refill. This might be because I sat in at the bar. The tortilla soup I ordered needed salt, more than the slithers of avocado, and tortillas for the tortilla soup. It also needed salt that was no where to be found. I was also only given a thin wedge of lime for the large bowl.I'd gladly have asked for what I needed if I had been checked on at any point during my meal. They apologized but I was served my soup with a plastic spoon. It was bland on top all of that. The blackbeans added tasted canned. The bowl was also splashed all over and greasy fingerprints on the edge. It got cold very fast because the bowl was improper for soup. I'd gladly have asked for what I needed if I had been checked on at any point during my meal. The corn ribs were decent so was the sauce but the toppings they came with were sparse. Barely sprinkled about so it was basically a plate of fried corn. The area looked busy , people were dressed decently and the review pics painted a better picture than I experienced. Pricing was very good considering the quality. But it's not a place I'd likely try again or recommend. The staff was fine, If not attentive but not rude...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place. I checked the menu out in advance on their website and saw that they had quite a variety of tacos. My wife was arriving home after a week away and was hungry getting off the plane, so to Del Sur Cantina we went. We ordered chips and queso to start. The chips were lightly dusted with seasoning salt which gave the chips an interesting kick. The queso was good but not as flavorful as I have had elsewhere. My wife ordered the Triple Option Tostada with ground beef. She really enjoyed it. I can't say the same for my tacos. The Chimi Steak Taco was the best of the three, but also the least adventurous. The Salmon Taco had rather mushy fish and wasn't served as warm as it should have been. My least favorite was the Booyah Shrimp taco. Now, I realize that shrimp can sometimes be served cold, but I didn't expect cold shrimp in a taco. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be served with Booyah sauce. However, the description in the menu said that the shrimp was fried, so I expected it to to be hot. I also found the toppings on the Booyah Shrimp Taco to be cold and the sauces on it and the Salmon Taco overpowered the fish. I can't say that I enjoyed it. But, I seem to be in the minority as many rave about the food here. So, I guess it's a matter of taste. You may love it. Give it a try and decide...
