As we know all Amatos are different, but I've never had a good experience at the India st location. I always feel like I'm cutting Into their cigarette breaks. One lady actually told me I needed to go pick out my chips real quick, as if to say my shopping was holding her register up. Another charged me 55 cents because I wanted my oil on the side. I laughed at her/him and took the sand which dry. One worker went nuts on me because I called out the fact that he was preparing my sandwhich without gloves. Seriously, this guy hadn't had a shower in days. His hands were as greasy as his hair. I refused to have my sandwhich made by this person. You may want to just start skipping this place. They basically serve 9 dollar school lunch sandwiches anyways. I've given them countless tries, but management just keeps on hiring the Ugly Ducklings. If you live near Westbrook, try Bakers Bench. They bake their own bread and roast their own turkeys daily.......and their giant sandwiches are 6-7 dollars....
Read moreI was just in Amatos India street location and was treated very poorly. I'm extremely disappointed because amatos is one of my favorite restaraunts around here. I called ahead and ordered my food. I went in and stood at the pick up counter for about 5-7 minutes before anyone actually spoke to me. The guy baking the pies looked at me many times but did not say a thing to me. Another guy walked by a few times and ignored me. Finally another guy acknowledged me and asked if he could help me and one of the other employees to him to ignore me. I was helped and was told it would be about 7 more minutes before my order was ready and I understood completely that great food takes time. I then waited and once I had my food I asked the guy baking the pies a question and he was extremely rude to me. I'm so so so disappointed. I'll definitely be avoiding this place for a long time. The food is good but when you are treated so poorly it just isn't worth it to me. Be kind to...
Read moreRacist old white woman at the counter. If you’re a person of color I’d avoid this establishment.
My brown boyfriend walked in to get me a a drink while I waited outside with our dog. We were both sober, honestly just wanted to go back to our hotel with a few drinks and watch a movie.
But he was refused at the counter. When he asked if it was because after a certain time they’re no longer allowed to sell alcohol (around 8:30 pm at the time), she said to him, “No, I just don’t feel comfortable serving you.” To which my boyfriend responded “ok…”, put the drink back, and promptly left the restaurant. Hmm, I wonder why you’re uncomfortable? What assumptions did you make about my boyfriend who just so happens to be brown??
I considered walking in myself to buy the drink but after some reflection don’t think we’ve EVER received this sort of treatment in Portland. I guess there’s a first time...
