I'm sure this is a great restaurant if your skin is the right color. This place (83 Exchange St, Portland, ME 04101) was recommended by our tour guide so I went there with 2 other African American women and we waited over 15 minutes for service in the mildly business restaurant. Infact we noticed 3 separate customers who came in after us and all were promptly serviced. Myself and another person in my party made eye contact with the waitress working the section where we were seated as she continued to ignore our table. Finally I called for a manager who promptly started apologizing before I had a chance to say one word about why she was called which made me wonder if this was a recurring theme. Once I explained the situation, the manager immediately started making excuses for the waitress. I listened patiently and told her "regardless to whether or not this was her section (which it was), at the very least she should have checked with the table to see if anyone had waited on us". The manager seemed somewhat indifferent about the situation and offered to make us her special project with a free meal and we absolutely refused because it was not our goal to be singled out nor to get a free meal, but in fact to be treated with dignity and respect the same as ever other patron who entered their doors. Besides, if I cannot trust the front of the house to provide descent service why would I then expect the back of the house to be or do otherwise. The service or lack thereof was no mistake and an insult to my sense and...
Read moreBlack Cow is hands down, one of the best burger joints in the city! As soon as I walked in, I was hit with the mouth-watering aroma of juicy burgers sizzling on the grill. My eyes were immediately drawn to the menu, which featured a mouthwatering array of options.
I ordered the cheeseburger with mushrooms and it was an absolute flavor bomb! Every bite was packed with deliciousness, from the perfectly cooked patty to the melty cheese and fresh toppings. The burger was juicy, well-seasoned, and the bun was lightly toasted, adding a nice crunch. It was, without a doubt, one of the best burgers I've had in a long time.
But let's talk about the dirty fries. Holy cow, these fries are out of this world! They're topped with a generous helping of this melted cheese sauce and sloppy joe concoction, and topped with pickled onions, to make the PERFECT dish. I actually haven't stopped thinking about it since I had it. The combination of flavors and textures was simply perfect. It's hard to stop at just one fry.
The atmosphere is lively, with a laid-back vibe that's perfect for enjoying a delicious meal with friends or family. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making the overall experience even better. If you're looking for a burger joint that's sure to satisfy your cravings, Black Cow is the...
Read moreWe should’ve listened to the sign and just ordered burgers and fries. 4 of us ordered 5 orders of wings around 10 PM, which we figured wouldn’t be a problem since they serve until 1 AM. When the wings came out, they were piping hot and smelled amazing. Each of us bit into a wing, to find that they were all bloody in the middle, which was disgusting. We called the waiter over, only for him to tell us that’s how they cook them and that they chef said they were cooked. After arguing with him, he agreed to obtain us new wings. After a solid 30 minutes, we received the new wings. These ones were also still bleeding! The consistently could be best described as slippery, which is not what you’re looking for with chicken wings. We complained again, but were again told we were wrong. Our group eats wings together almost weekly and we have all worked in restaurants forever. I get it mistakes happen, but to be argued with over raw chicken is beyond unacceptable. I’d imagine the waiter just thought we had had too many beers and were shooting for a free meal, but we really wanted to eat the wings! The sauce smelled and tasted amazing, and I’m sure if a different cook and server were on this could’ve been a 5 star experience. Our loss, as we ended up still paying for the wings...
