“New Haven” style right here in Portland. I ordered expecting a pie very similar to Pepe’s on the east coast. The pies are almost $30 and they default you to 15% gratuity when ordering a pizza for pick up, so I expected a exceptional product and experience.
Service- 1/5 Checked in at take out window and told order wasn’t ready yet. Waited for 10 minutes and they confirmed my name on the order. After 20 more minutes I check back in and they say my order is just ready. They handed me two pizzas that had been sitting on their counter for 15 minutes. Very rough experience. Pizza- Toppings 5/5. Topping flavors were amazing. The fennel sausage and peppers on The Father were extremely well made and high quality. Cheeses were top quality too and added great flavor with their balance. There was too much olive oil on the Cacio e Pepe though and made eating it messier than hot wings. Crust 1/5 This was the real let down. I would forget the service issue if the crust crushed it, but the crust was just bad all around. Crust was thick and extremely chewy and leathery. I couldn’t eat more than two slices with crust it was so hard to chew. Trying to hold a slice resulted in full flop because dough was very undercooked beneath toppings too. Oven heat issues possibly.
Will I try it again? Surprisingly yes. The crust was bad and at $28 for a pie that dough shouldn’t get by. The toppings were absolutely phenomenal though, and for that reason I do plan to give it...
Read moreTHE ONLY PLACE to get real hoagies in PDX DARE I say the west coast.
There’s a lot of good things about Dimo’s. First the hoagies are exceptional. What makes these stand out is the specialty bread they have made for them. It’s perfect sesame seed coated and all. Crunchy crust and soft inside. This is what truly makes an east coast hoagie happen. The chicken parm is an excellent cutlet and it’s using the same tasty red sauce from the pizza.
The Italian IS the best thing on the menu. Stop reading this review and order it.
The pizza is also fantastic. Truly it’s a 5/5 star for crust, sauce toppings and crust. I arguably consider the white pie to be the stand out but the red pies are a very close second.
Disclaimer I grew up 45 mins south of new haven ct. This pizza claims it’s New Haven style I disagree simply because New Haven pizza is cooked in a coal oven. Dimo’s has an incredible oven and crust it’s not coal though so I would more accurately call this New York style pizza. That said it’s some of the best pizza I’ve had on the wear coast. My party ordered a red pie tasted it and immediately went in to order an additional white pie in my picks.
There is plenty of outdoor seating a fair wine selection. Ordering a whole bottle is cheaper then by the pour glasses. Go here, bring your friends and pay respects to the ART that is being...
Read moreI don’t normally write bad reviews but I was not happy with my experience here and I was looking forward to trying it out :( Dimo’s was recommended to me by a few friends so I was excited to try it hoping that it would live up to expectations. Unfortunately, the tri colore salad was unbearably salty, the pizza was tragically mediocre and the service was hostile. As someone who also works in service I am the first to give the benefit of the doubt but this interaction just confused me. My partner was told he had one free refill on his drink so he went back inside to get it and was asked if he wanted more ice, he said no because he has sensitive teeth and still had some ice in the cup. The servers retort was “wow really getting your moneys worth out of the refill huh”. Yes maybe she was having a bad day, but giving a refill costs HER NOTHING, fountain soda is incredibly cheap and its coming out of the companies pocket not hers. Besides it being a completely nonsensical thing to be rude about its unprofessional. I would never say that to a customer when I am at work and I’ve definitely been in situations where customer are trying to take advantage of the system, which we weren’t! Anyways… sadly will not be visiting this...
