Guilder Coffee Company @ Powell's City of Books — Restaurant in Portland

I have been an adamant Powell's bookstore customer for a few decades and usually I bring a cup of joe from Peets down the street, but they have since permanently closed... So, just recently I decided to give Guilder Cafe a shot and yes their espresso drinks are pretty good, but if your looking for seasonal flavors or any flavors, u won't find them here... Just straight tastes and no excitement... Depending on who's working that day, u might have issues getting the exact temperatures that you want with your drink, so stay general...And please don't drop anything on the floor, because they haven't mopped in a long time... You can actually see the dirt streaks once you've sat...

Cappuccino top-notch. Dropped my rating to 2 just because I once ordered a cortado to go, and they made a mistake. They made it for here; after saying it was to go, they just flipped it into a to-go cup right in front of me and handed it back. Today I ordered to go and received this, without latte art, just coffee as from a vending machine. I know it sounds a little too picky, but it says a lot about their approach to customers and how they treat their jobs. Stumbled upon this coffee shop in an impressive book store. Got a really great cortado that was smooth and tasty - light-to-medium roasted Guatemalan anaerobic washed beans, if I remember correctly. It tasted sweet and fruity. Will be coming back. Surprised it has a 4.4 review rating.
