Henny’s is honestly the best restaurant around, no question. From the moment I walked in, the place had a friendly and welcoming vibe that made me feel comfortable right away. The service was great too everyone was polite, quick, and made sure I had everything I needed without ever rushing me. But what really makes Henny’s stand out is the food. I ordered pancakes, a grilled cheese, and apple juice, and every single thing was spot-on. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and golden brown, with that perfect homemade taste you just can’t get anywhere else. They were filling without being heavy, and with syrup on top, they were absolute perfection. The grilled cheese was just as impressive. The bread was toasted evenly, with a satisfying crunch on the outside, while the cheese inside was melted perfectly gooey, stretchy, and full of flavor. It tasted like comfort food done right, the kind of meal that makes you feel good the moment you take a bite. Even the apple juice was surprisingly good. It tasted fresh and crisp, not watered down or artificial like some places serve. It was the perfect refreshing drink to balance out the meal. What I love about Henny’s is that they don’t overcomplicate things—they take classic, simple foods and make them taste better than you’d expect. Everything feels like it was made with care, and it shows. It’s the type of spot you can always count on for great food and a cozy atmosphere. Overall, I’d give Henny’s a solid 50/10. Whether you’re craving breakfast, lunch, or just a quick snack, this is the place to go. The pancakes, grilled cheese, and apple juice combo proved to me that Henny’s really knows what they’re doing. I’ll definitely be coming back every single day forever until i die.

I was under the belief that I had frequented most breakfast places when visit the city but then this place popped up in my recommendations. And I'm glad it did. Definitely a new favorite. For starters they're open at 6am which is very much appreciated for someone who needs to be at work by 7am most days when most other places aren't apen until 8am. They have an option to order online and pickup as well as sit in and dine, which I did both considering I tried it one day for pickup and went back again the next day because my food was so amazing. I had a grits bowl and knew it was a gamble given how off the consistency usually is but these were cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were perfect for the price point and my eggs were exactly as requested each day. I tried the biscuit which was also delicious and I believe they make their blackberry jam in-house? Lastly they serve local roasters for coffee and offer both dairy and non-dairy creamer options. The atmosphere is very uplifting and the service at the counter toptier. Give it a try if you're in town. If you guys ever expand, please consider a location in Bangor haha.

Either incorrect hours or someone forgot to take down the giant "OPEN" sign out front because they were closed when I showed up at 6:57. At the time there was nobody in the cafe, and maybe someone set up shop for the morning then had to quickly handle something away from the store and only had time to put up a "closed" sign. Trying to enter an area where it's posted that you shouldn't is trespassing. Instead of acknowledging this miscommunication the business left a passive aggressive response, unfortunately I would've loved to give it a second try.

Hands down one of the best breakfast and lunch spots in Portland!

From the moment I walked into Henny’s, I knew it was going to be special. The vibe of the place is so warm, inviting, and homey. You can tell it’s a family-run spot because everything from the décor to the food to the way they treat customers feels personal and genuine. Portland has so many restaurants, but Henny’s honestly feels like it’s in its own category—like the perfect neighborhood café where you feel like part of the family as soon as you step inside.

Now let’s talk about the food… AMAZING doesn’t even begin to cover it. I’ve tried a few different things on the menu already, and every single item has been spot-on. The pancakes are fluffy and cooked perfectly, the waffles have those nice crispy edges that make you want to order another round, and the breakfast sandwiches are built with such care (you can tell the bread is high quality—it makes a huge difference). One standout for me was the “Mill Stack”—it’s this genius combo of waffles, eggs, bacon, cheese, and jam. Sweet, savory, crunchy, gooey—it hits EVERY craving at once. On the lunch side, their sandwiches are stacked high and never skimpy. The “Henny’s Italian” had me smiling with every bite, and the falafel pita was fresh, flavorful, and filling. Even the little details like the fruit sides or the grab-and-go salads taste way fresher than what you’d expect from a quick café.

The coffee is also amazing—smooth, strong, and clearly chosen with care. I’m picky about my coffee, and theirs easily beats most coffee shops I’ve tried in the city. It pairs perfectly with any of their breakfast items.

But what really makes Henny’s shine is the service. Heidi and Kenny (the owners) have clearly poured their heart into this place, and it shows in the way customers are treated. Everyone is greeted with a smile, orders are taken quickly, and even when the place gets busy, the staff never make you feel rushed or overlooked. They actually care if you’re enjoying your meal, and that makes all the difference.

And I have to give a HUGE shoutout to their awesome son who rang me up at the register. Seriously, he was so friendly, polite, and upbeat—it honestly set the tone for my whole visit. You don’t usually notice who’s behind the register, but he had such a good energy about him that it stuck with me. It’s clear that the entire family is invested in making this café welcoming, and you feel that energy as a customer.

On top of all this, the atmosphere is just right—cozy enough to sit and hang out with friends over a slow breakfast, but also efficient enough that you can pop in, grab something quick, and head to work. The balance is perfect.

I’ve eaten at a LOT of spots in Portland, and I can honestly say that Henny’s is up there with the best. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing people—it checks every box. If you haven’t been yet, you are seriously missing out. I can already tell this is going to become one of those “regular” spots for me where I’ll keep coming back again and again.

Bottom line: Henny’s is a gem. Don’t walk, RUN there. Whether it’s pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, or just a coffee and pastry, you won’t leave...

Stopped in here after a run to check it out, not expecting to make a purchase. I saw they had Cheesy Grits on the menu for $6 (with chives, an egg, and a choice of protein) and decided it was a low stakes, high possible reward game. You see, I am a lover of grits but as a Northern raised girly, I cannot correctly cook them; good grits are also hard to find at a restaurant when you go north of the Mason Dixon line. So I decided to order, and even got to see the I credible staff work out a problem with a customer where they thought they had ordered online, but it hadn't gone through. They handled it super kindly and efficiently.

I ordered an iced coffee while I waited for the order (the coffee was fine, I believe it was Carrabasset). And after 17 minutes of sitting outside on the bench in the sunshine, I received a text to pick up my order.

Guys... the noises I made while eating these grits were NSFW. I like my grits like they go to the family party that polenta goes to. Thick, gooey, but a nice fine grit. Salted, but not overly salty or cheesy. And these grits DELIVERED. On top of it, I ordered bacon as the protein and the bacon had a delicate sweetness that didnt over-salt the flavor.

You can tell a LOT about a place that does grits right, and I am very excited to go back and try more of...
