The food is good but not great and certainly expensive, for a falafel outfit. We got three falafel and one chicken shawarma wraps. The portions were pretty small, even for our 11 year old daughter, who always seems to have the tiniest stomach of us all. Not a big deal. However, when we pulled out another sandwich to keep her happy, we were told that we couldn't have any other food at the table, other than what we had purchased from them. The place was nearly empty, by the way, and nobody was waiting for a table. Strange -- we thought -- and we pointed out to the lady that we had already purchased 4 sandwiches and 2 sodas from their place for a total of $62 plus tip. Regardless, she insisted that we had to leave because "any food from the outside" was not allowed. We packed up whatever we had left and walked to a bench outside, near the Monument, to finish our meals. We won't be back. Portland is a great food town with excellent options and impeccable service. We live on York Street, so we're locals. Nura is just ok food wise, pricey for what you get for your money, and the service and basic common courtesy is clearly lacking. With so many better options out there that offer great food and don't embarrass their customers we simply...
Read moreOn 09.02.2023, I visited Nura Hummus & Falafel with a group of friends. The first thing that I noticed was that they have variety of vegetarian and vegan options available, and we decided to try the Old School Falafel, Nuru Falafel, and Mushroom Shawarma falafel.
The Old School falafel was all good, and we especially liked the flavorful, herbaceous filling of pickled beet root in the Nuru Falafel. The portions for all the falafels were decent for the price.
We also tried the mint lemonade, which was a little sweeter. Another thing was that it wasn't refillable, which seemed like a missed opportunity.
The service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and made sure that we had everything we needed. We also appreciated the fact that the restaurant was clean and inviting.
Overall, we had a great experience at Nura Hummus & Falafel. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was welcoming. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great Mediterranean meal while in...
Read moreAYOOO! Holy smokes, this falafel was a revelation! The shop is clean and inviting, the staff friendly without being artificially nice, the vibes were on point…and the falafel?! I am in no way exaggerating when I say, having taken my meal to go, that with the first bite, I had to pull over and eat the rest with my eyes closed, to allow the perfection to supersaturate my face, then my body, and my whole car. Every day that you’re in Portland, at some point, during their normal hours of operation, I think it best you get at LEAST one, but probably more like three falafels, and the fries, (which I’m leaving perfectly seasoned fingerprints on my phone screen with) and allow yourself to experience sustenance and excellence in every bite. If you’re cool, and not lame, you’ll do whatever is necessary to get yourself some of this. Shoutouts to Big D and Camborghini, the maestros of this magical Mecca of chick pea power, for creating something that makes Portland so much more tolerable...
