Poblano Pepper Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Portland

Texan transplants and we finally got tired of our own Tex-mex at home. We thought "maybe we can find some decent Tex-mex, even though there won't be anything authentic here." Happy to be wrong! It's not Tex-mex or Coahuilan or Chihuahuan but it feels too real not to be authentic if that makes sense.

This place is doing it all right. We had chips, salsa, guac, a mar y tierra burrito, and mole poblano enchiladas. They knocked everything completely out of the park except for the salsa. Some of the best food I've had, particularly for this price in Portland.

One guy seemed to be running everything (at least FOH. Maybe someone else was BOH.) Probably the owner would be my guess. He was friendly and quick. The pictures they're using are accurate -- it actually comes out...

This is by far my favorite Mexican place in downtown Portland. The food is delicious and the service is top notch. The ambience is pretty nice too. The quality of the food has gone up recently and now they are doing specials on weekends. I got the Al pastor salmon fillet tacos and they were delicious but I prefer my usual Al pastor and chicken taco. Their veggie tacos are pretty good too. Been here a few times now. Ordered the Mar Y Tiera burrito with Chipotle mayo on the side. Got lettuce in the burrito even though it doesn't say it comes with lettuce on the menu. Ordered the Sarape burrito with no cheese add Shrimp. Received the burrito WITH cheese and some red sauce added to it. Menu does NOT state that it comes with a sauce.
