Speechless, frustrated, pissed off, shocked and disappointed sum up our experience at Ruth's Chris Steak House.
We came tonight and sat at the bar. We were so excited to try this steak house. First round of drinks were fine as was our appetizer but that's about all I can that was pleasant during our dining experience and it does not out way the bad.
After our appetizer we started noticing tables around us who came in after us and ordered after us started getting their food. Then they brought our salad which was ordered as a side for our meal which was stated during ordering out but nothing else. We continue to sit with an untouched salad. When the hour mark hit of us ordering food and about 15-20 minutes uses of this salad sitting out here untouched we started to get upset. We were talking amongst ourselves about this when our waiter inserted himself in the conversation. Never in my life has a waiter spoke to us in the manner of which this gentleman did. He tried telling us we hadn't been there an hour..yet I had a photo of the menu I took that had a time stamp. He then said it was what we ordered but yet the person behind us and next to us had the same thing. When he walked off I was speechless and pissed. Not a moment later did the head manager come over and explain the same thing. Never apologizing nothing. The utter lack of care or respect was wild. Another 10-15 minutes we finally got our food which at this point was 1.5 hours in tonour experience. We were beyond frustrated, upset and speechless that we didn't want to eat and more and simply wanted to leave. That was another issue...apparently our waiter had now decided to ignore us. It took 10 minutes to get another kind waiter to help us with the boxes and check. While they comp a round of drinks and the sides $120 for this experience was outrageous and frustrating. I opted to speak to the lower manager. I explained we wanted nothing at this point but to simply clue him in on the utter lack of respect or care from his boss and the waiter.
The waiter who boxed our meal was so kind. He clearly was put in a situation he didn't cause nor have really any idea about. We handed him a $20 and thanked him for his help.
I want never to go back to Ruth's Chris Steak House. This was just a foul experience for as nice and expensive as...
Read moreI came into this establishment on June 1st, 2024 to celebrate my birthday with family and friends. I had a party of 6, which I wanted to do their happy hour from 4-6pm. My party and I arrived at 4 to enjoy some of their fantastic dishes listed on the HH Menu. As we walked towards the bar, we were stop by one of the employees who had asked us to wait to get seated. Now, this isn’t my family and I first time to this restaurant so asking us to wait was a bit confusing when if there’s an open table in the bar your welcomed to seat yourselves. Moving forward, I had the group seat in what looked like a waiting area, where we sat for 45 minutes. when I saw the manager I mentioned to him that the party was here and could we please go to the open table that was available, he responded with an off putting attitude, “ you have a 15 minute wait”. Reminding him that we didn’t make reservations, we just came to enjoy their happy hour, which you do not make reservations for because it’s a first come first served. He then looked at me and stated again, “ YOUR PARTY HAS A 15 MINUTE WAIT! “. The time in which we arrived at 4pm, turned into us finally been seated at 4:50pm. Once we got to the table, the waiter came and took our drink order. The wait period was better, about a 5 minute wait but unfortunately only half of the drinks came out. The other half took about 20 minutes. When I asked what was the problem with our drinks taking so long, the waitress says, “ It’s really busy at the bar, it may take some time!”. Even though in the entire restaurant there wasn’t nearly 4 groups in the bar, how can it be busy?. At this point , we politely just agreed to what was told to us and waited AGAIN. My overall opinion of this unfortunate incident was a big displeasure. A night in which I wanted to enjoy and remember, turned into a big disappointment with the lack of the service from their staff and management given to us. I believe it’s fair to say that I will take some time away before coming back to this restaurant. They treated us poorly and that is not okay. Respectfully, I believe that they owe me a complete refund. I wanted to experience a great birthday with their restaurant but it was cut short, due to...
Read moreSadly, our experience tonight will be the last for our family of six at this Portland location. We have dined at fine steak restaurants for years, Ruth’s being one of our past time favorites. However, it was a very disappointing experience tonight. First off, we checked in for a 7:30 reservation and was told our table was being set. We waited and watched several people be seated ahead of us, as it took 30 minutes for our table to be set. Then we were seated upstairs in the corner at a table that was wobbly. We’ve usually sat downstairs which is much nicer. If you dine out frequently, you know the back corner tables are the worst. Our server was friendly but he asked us if we had dined with Ruths before, which we all said yes, several times, except for one. He explained the new items which is fine, but then proceeded to speak to us as if we were idiots. I really felt we were treated very differently. After getting our meals, my husbands rib eye was the worst one yet, tough and hard to cut. One of my sons fillets was cold to the touch in the center which was ordered as medium rare. We hesitated to say something but of course we sent both of them back. My husbands came back better but still not up to standard, even though the server told us it was hand picked. My sons was basically re-cooked, not replaced, still below standard, but he was hungry and just ate it. Maybe it just wasn’t a good weekend for your cuts of meat. Overall, it was not the great dining experience we’ve had in the past, and the food was highly average and was definitely not as good as we’ve had it before. Our oldest son has dined here many times and had the same server before, also not having a good experience, so we wonder if that was related to our dinner tonight? At any rate, thank goodness we had birthday gift cards to put towards our bill. When you spend hundreds of dollars on a meal you hope to have a great time. I’m genetally an extremely generous tipper, usually 20% or higher, but it was difficult to leave even the 12% that I did for a very disappointing meal. Hoping to try again maybe in...
