I went to Tokyo and ordered the Prattville Rolls and a side of fried rice. Little did I know I was also ordering a side of discrimination and racism. My experience started with a young white male waiter who greeted me with what I can only describe as a sigh of annoyance, like he couldn't even be bothered to say hello. He asked for my drink order with minimal effort, then suddenly, for reasons unknown, he switched out with a young Asian waitress. She seemed nice enough, refilled my water, and didn't really engage much – no big deal. But things took a turn when I received my check. I noticed that gratuity was automatically applied. There were no signs or notices anywhere that stated this was standard practice. Trying to ignore the uneasy feeling in my gut, I left the restaurant, but it kept bothering me. So, I went back inside to get the receipt and still said nothing about the gratuity. Later, I called the restaurant to ask what their policy was on automatically charging gratuity. I was told that gratuity is only added for parties of six or more. Here’s the kicker: I was dining alone. Furious, I went back to the restaurant to speak with the manager. She was a young white woman who seemed genuinely apologetic and offered to refund the $3.55. I appreciated her apology, but it wasn’t about the money – it was about the principle. She called over my waitress, who bluntly admitted, “Sometimes we just charge it to certain customers.” I asked her directly how they determine who these "certain customers" are. Do they decide based on the color of our skin? She shook her head, and then another staff member, an Asian male, chimed in saying, "That's why with the new system, you have to check and take the charge off manually." This explanation felt like a lame excuse – why would any restaurant have a "new system" that requires you to manually correct almost every bill?

I didn't eat at Hibachi or at the Hibachi area, so mind that while reading my review. Was craving some sushi on a Sunday,  so my go-to sushi spots were closed.  I thought I'd give this place a try. The sushi was okay. It wasn't old or fishy tasting, but the fish wasn't flavorful. I even ordered a piece of salmon sashimi to see if it was me. While the texture of the sashimi was fine, the sashimi itself was flavorless. Everything was just average in terms of the sushi. The price was good, though. $5-8 per basic sushi roll. Specially rolls ranged from $15-18. I sat in the dining area that is separate from the hibachi.  The atmosphere was typical for an asian restaurant. The service was good, but felt rushed. One thing that I love about eating sushi is being able to sit down and slowly eat with my chop sticks, one piece at a time, with convo in between each bite. The dinning area where I was placed kind of felt more like an eat-and-go environment. So I felt like eating here defeated my purpose of eating sushi. Ultimately,  i feel it was really my fault for going to a hibachi place for sushi. I'm sure that the hibachi area was different, so I wouldn't use my review to judge the whole restaurant, but if you're in the sushi mood, I'd recommend a different place. On a side note, my husband ordered the chicken katsu with fried rice, and he really enjoyed his meal. Katsu was crunchy and crispy on the outside but juicy inside. Fried rice was grilled on the hibachi, which gave it an extra kick. They put a hefty amount of black pepper, which my husband loved.

I am very pleased to write a review on my recent experience at Tokyo. Most of my visits there are typically at the sushi bar, but this time, I enjoyed the grill side with friends, and boy, was I impressed with our chef Johnny! He had an amazing personality and was extremely interactive throughout our dining experience and made sure to include all of our party. The food was delicious, and his show was highly entertaining. The only reasons I left three stars for the atmosphere were because we waited 20 minutes for our meal to start, and I also missed the Asian music in the background (I’m weird and enjoy having the “entire experience” when I am eating international foods.)

Honestly, you're better off going ANY WHERE ELSE! I was just here on December 26th and I have no intentions of ever going back or referring anyone to visit. Customer service was absolutely TRASH. Our waiter, Kevin, wasn't nice or welcoming at all and seemed very rushed with us all the entire time. When it came time to let him know what type of salad dressing I wanted on the small salad they bring you prior to your chef coming to cook, I said "double soup instead please". This means I didn't want a salad but two soups instead. When I said this, Kevin blatantly and audibly grumbled the F word (yes, THAT F word) under his breath. I didn't know asking for a soup to replace my salad was such a burden on him! I was honestly so offended - I have never experienced a waiter becoming upset with me because I wanted soup instead of salad. Things just began to continue to fall down hill from there. At no point was anyone at our table offered drink refills - not even water- throughout our entire time there. And did I mention that we were all specifically asked by Kevin if our tickets would be "together or separate" and my ticket and friend's ticket ended up on ONE ticket instead of SEPARATE tickets after we SPECIFICALLY TOLD HIM we were on separate tickets? I understand that people can move quick and make mistakes, but I highly doubt that's what happened to Kevin in this situation.

Our hibachi cook wasn't as bad as Kevin but I could clearly tell he didn't care for some of us. Certain people would say "thank you" after he put food on the plate (me & my friend included) but he would never say "you're welcome" to us. We weren't whispering - we were clearly audible so not sure why he wouldn't reciprocate the response. For some people, that wouldn't bother them so much but when your cook is saying "you're welcome" to everyone else at your table but you it becomes quite noticeable. And the food, my goodness the food. So disappointed. The food lacked flavor and was over grilled. No one wants charred and limp vegetables. And by vegetables, I mean a few pieces of zucchini, broccoli, and carrots and a TON of onions. My poor friend was even charged an EXTRA DOLLAR for asking for broccoli and zucchini only! Who charges and EXTRA DOLLAR for LESS VEGETABLES?

Be wise, save your dollars, or choose a table on the non-hibachi side. I can only hope your experience is far...

Back in June my whole family, 12 people went for my birthday. The service was TERRIBLE! They charged EACH ticket a gratuity of well over 20%. In total the waitress received a tip of over 100.00. I had to get everyone's drinks because after being seated, the waitress NEVER returned. Our food also was all wrong. We were there for over 2 hours! ! We complained to who we thought was a "manager" and he asked us who our waitress was. We explained to him what she looked like and his response was... "the girl who walks like a duck with a big ass". No doubt, we were in shock. He assured us that if we came back our meal would be taken care of. So some of us did. 4 of us. When we told the "manager" that our meal was taken care of and it was under our last name, he called someone on the phone and handed me his cell phone. The guy on the phone never told me who he was he just kept saying, I never told you that. I was so embarrassed in front of all the customers no doubt. I walked up front to pay and the guy who claimed to be the owner, kept laughing at me and I told him we would never be back. We always come there and spend a lot of money and he shrugged his shoulders and laughed and told me he did not care. He over charged me 25.00 and when I pointed it out, he did not want to correct it. I told him that is manager was a liar aND he laughed and one of the employees told me to "SHUT UP"! °HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE. They are super rude and crude and I will never be back to that terrible place! I wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE!! ...
