This was the first time I had visited Mt. Fuji Steak house. I had an 8pm reservation and got there about 5 minutes early. The hostess was busy organizing receipts and tended to ignore my date and I. When she finally did she asked us to sign in. We were seated at one if the Hibatchi grilles and waited. I must say it was very busy,; the first week of full seating in Rhode Island since Covid. The waitress came by pretty quickly and took our food and drink order. The drinks came fairly quickly but we waited an hour for the chef. So at 9pm the cooking started. The restaurant did take precautions with plexiglass dividers between people and also in front of the grille to protect from breathing of customers on the food. The food it self was good. Luckily I had ordered some sushi as an appetizer otherwise I would have been starving with the hour wait. I ordered the California roll and it was fresh and tasty. My date wanted something good with saki in it as a drink and the waitress suggested some things an ultimately helped my date decide on something unique to have the bartender make. When the chef finally came to cook he did a good job of cooking but that's all he did. No fun interaction with the patrons. We weren't in a hurry so we took our time eating and watched the next chef set up across from us. He was much more entertaining. He spun the egg for the rice, caught another in his hat and made the onion volcano. We got none if that so we were a little disappointed. I had calmari and shrimp, my date had chicken and shrimp. The food turned out ok but we also noticed the other chef used more ingredients like butter and more spices. It could be possibly different dishes but rice is a staple on the menu. All in all the food was good the waitress although extremely busy was as attentive as she could be. But the rest of the staff seemed somewhat indifferent. Although as we were leaving some staff did say good night. To me, I'd give it another shot but with hibachi , I think it should be fun and more consistent and the management and staff should at least greet you and be courteous. They could use some work with that , our waitress excluded. So, I think depending upon what chef you get and how much time you expect to wait may influence whether you'd like to go there. I'd try it again but it wouldn't be my...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend just got back from our first trip to Mt. Fuji in Providence.
The inside was very cool and we were greeted and sat promptly. We sat at the sushi bar and put in our orders for 2 Spider Rolls (Softshell crab rolls), a soup and salad and an order of tamago nigiri.
We got the food relatively fast for a packed Friday night. To my surprise, the soft shell was deep fried which wasn't mentioned on the menu and we both didn't want anything fried. We both took a bite and found that the fried crab had a burned taste to it. We called our waitress over who very matter-of-factly stated that all soft shell crab is fried. I'm not a connoisseur of crab so I had no idea; had I know, I'd have gone with something else. After we told our waitress that we didn't care for it and that we didn't know it was fried, she stated that she was going to have to throw it out and not take it off the bill because there isn't anything wrong with it (I guess burned taste is normal) and that we'd be better off taking it home.
After that unpleasant interaction, I ordered a spicy tuna roll and my girlfriend asked the waitress if there was any crab on the menu that was not fried. Our waitress asked if she wanted, and I cannot stress this enough, "real crab" and my girlfriend said "yes". Our waitress said that Mt Fuji has king crab and she can get that in a roll, so my girlfriend ordered that.
We got our new order and the spicy tuna roll was average but the king crab roll was not good at all. Not wanting to complain and get nowhere again, she sucked it up and ate it. We got the bill and we see that "CRAB STICK ONLY" was in the instructions for the "king crab" roll.
I didn't know that soft shell crab was fried, I at least I know king crab is real crab and when "real crab" is stressed while talking to a server and then ordered, one would expect to get real crab, not crab stick.
Mt Fuji was highly recommended by many of our friends but our experience...
Read moreMy wife and I arrived at the restaurant at 2:20 p.m. I made sure that we would still be in the lunch time frame when I called, and I was told they served lunch until 3:00. A person haphazardly seated us at the hibachi grill when asked if we wanted hibachi. Evidently, if you want hibachi, you can get it at a regular table and pay for a lunch portion, but of course the person seating us did not explain this. We were set at the hibachi grill and forgotten. When my wife went to go find someone, the guy took our order, telling us he was not aware that we were even there, and brought us the wrong soft drinks. Finally, at 3:05 we still had not had anyone come to the grill, we're the only people there, so we asked for the bill to pay for our soft drinks and soups, salad, and the guy tells us that he'll have the person there to service our table, so we waited. Ultimately, we get ready to pay, and we were charged for dinner time portion, stating that because we sat at the hibachi grill, we have to pay the dinner price (?!?). In the meantime, a worker was sleeping on a bench, and just woke up out of nowhere and left the area, which was strange. The whole time, we were just overlooked. When I tried to explain the situation to the server, he refused to change the food charge, so we spent $73 for lackluster food and a really dingy depressing setting. I would never go back there again! The food was not flavored very well either, I always love yum yum sauce, but not there. And why would someone want to pay more to sit at the hibachi grill, I would way rather NOT have to watch the process, I just want the food. The sushi my wife got was very basic, had very...
