I went into Tricycle not really knowing what to expect -- I had heard "novelties" and "tacos" but didn't realize what they had were pre-packaged novelties, just made in house with awesome flavor combinations! We spent a while perusing the beautifully handdrawn chalkboard menu and debating what to get. The staff were super knowledgable about each of the items we asked about. We ended up getting the passionfruit ice cream drumstick and the calamansi push-pop. The treats come very very frozen so probably pretty perfect outside in hot weather. We ate it inside to escape the humidity so it took a while for the desserts to come to an edible temperature.
The passionfruit drumstick ($7) was huge and delicious! It's made of a white chocolate shell with toasted coconut encasing a tart passionfruit ice cream, sweet mixed berry core, and a crunchy waffle cone, with some surprise white chocolate at the bottom of the cone. It was a delight from start to finish and importantly, not too sweet! I was seriously considering getting a taco to eat by myself afterwards (and i am not a dessert person usually), which speaks for how delicious it was without being super sweet and heavy. $7 is a steal for such a creation!
They had a lot of cool fruit flavors of push-pops so we ended up getting the calamansi ($4). It was super tasty, with the perfect balance of sweet and sour. It has a similar texture to a Luigi italian ice, but with calamansi flavor! That flavor lingered in my mouth for a while and it was a lovely way to end the day.
Overall had a wonderful experience here -- adding it to the list of places i have to come back to Providence for!! I only wish I could eat more desserts at once so I could try...
Read moreTo start, their ice cream and sorbets are the BEST. Such unique flavors and options to choose from! We love their ube sandwich, passion fruit sandwich, Thai tea sandwich and matcha ice cream sandwich. Their calamansi sorbet also is amazing. They also have a cute seating area behind their store.
What makes them outstanding: In short, my husband left his wallet at their store by accident one Sunday afternoon. We are from Boston, so when he realized he couldn’t find his work ID, we called around and thankfully, they had his wallet! We drove a bit over an hour to Tricycle to come pick it up. Even though they’re closed on Monday, they kindly let us in and treated us to ice cream sandwiches for our long commute back!!!! Absolutely mind blowing to us, as it was our fault in the first place for leaving my husband’s wallet there. This kindness speaks volumes about what kind of business this is. Such a wonderful Asian-owned local business that should continually be well-supported.
This is a MUST VISIT spot in Providence for their flavors, but their service really tops it all off. Sending lots of love...
Read moreOn a sweltering 95°F+ day, a sorbet push pop is an excellent treat. I was able to try 3 flavors on my visit: calamansi, mango con tajin, and passionfruit mimosa. We all thought the passionfruit mimosa was the best! The alcohol probably contributed to a softer texture, which was quite pleasant, and the flavor was excellent. The mango con tajin was exactly as expected, refreshing with a slight hit of salt and spice. The calamansi flavor, which is listed as tart Filipino lime, was much sweeter than expected. I wanted a more punchy flavor but sadly ended up not finishing the pop because it got to be cloying. Be warned, especially on a ridiculously hot day, there will be melting! The staff provide you with small bags and I didn't realize that I should have used the bag to protect my hands from all the stickiness until it was too late. As someone with a gluten allergy, it was great to have creative flavor options of sorbet and there are also at least 1 or 2 ice cream sandwiches that are gluten...
