This place looked amazing while walking commercial street the day before. We decided to try this place out for Mother’s Day the following day…shouldn’t have done that, and here’s why!
We ordered a coffee, cinnamon bun, hot chocolate, veggie burrito, 2 waffles, and a side of tater tot’s.
Coffee and hot chocolate came out it was great, cinnamon bun came out, it was okay but we only took two bites and weren’t feeling it. We didn’t say anything about that. Waffles came out out and I took one bite, it was terrible. It may just have been personal preference.
We put the waffles to the side and when the server came to check on us we stated we were all set with the waffles. ……This is where it just gets unacceptable customer service. The owner or manager came over to ask us what was wrong and why we didn’t like the waffles. We expressed we didn’t like the taste and it tasted like chicken and waffles but without the chicken. As if they didn’t clean the griddle. She stated “well we cook them separately, I can take 20% off the bill” without giving us an option, we just said okay.
Next, the server brought us the bill. We noticed they only took 2.80 off of each waffle which amounted to 20% off. So we would have to pay $22.40 for waffles we didn’t eat. Which is absolutely mind boggling. On top of that we never even got our tater tots.
We were obviously upset about that. My friend went up to the owner or manager(she never stated who she was) and asked why did she only took 2.80 off the waffles. She rudely stated “well that’s 20% off, and that’s what you agreed to”…mind you she didn’t really give us a choice. My friend then stated “well, we’re not paying for waffles we didn’t touch, so either take them off or I’m not paying the tab” then she agreed.
She processed the bill and when she came to give it to us she rudely asked “were you ladies here yesterday” confused we said no (because we weren’t) she took our cards and while she was processing the cards we realized how inappropriate that question was. Was she accusing us of doing the same thing the day prior, was it racially motivated(we’re Latin woman). Either way it was totally inappropriate.
The entire experience was horrible and for it to be mother’s day and have experienced this really was...
Read moreMy husband and I went here for breakfast on September 7th (~10 am), a rainy morning. We were seated outside near the hostess stand, like many others that day. At first it seemed fine, but rainwater started dripping onto our table through an open shutter, and my coffee and food were getting rained on. I politely brought it up to the hostess, who said she would close the shutter. After 15–20 minutes, nothing was done. I finally asked our waitress if we could move to the table next to us, and she graciously helped.
What made this experience truly upsetting was what happened right after. A man (white) arrived, was seated by the same hostess on the table we were previously on, and she immediately pulled the shutter down for him while apologizing for the rain. This was the exact issue we had been ignored over for nearly half an hour.
It’s hard not to see the difference in how we were treated compared to how others were treated. That moment was deeply uncomfortable and frankly painful. When you’re on vacation, the last thing you expect is to be reminded that your presence is valued less. You don't expect racism in ptown.
Discrimination in restaurants doesn’t always show up as slurs, it often shows up in who gets listened to, who gets prompt service, and who gets brushed off. The impact is real. It leaves you sitting there wondering why your comfort and your dignity matter less.
I hope the management of Yolquera reflects seriously on this. No guest should walk away from breakfast feeling humiliated or “less than.” Hospitality should be...
Read moreWe came here for lunch after reading some rave reviews about this place. I give them 3 stars because the service and the atmosphere was good. It pains me to give a restaurant such a bad review however the food especially the California Omelette was sadly at best iHOP standard (if not worse). The green salad on the side portion was 1 tablespoon to be exact and that too wilted, the smallest piece of avocado was rotted not just brown, probably the only piece they had who knows. We had to remove that piece off from our place. I would be so embarrassed to serve it let alone even eating it. The only nice thing about the California omelette place was the double triple fried Tater Tots “Oreida” to be specific. The Heinz ketchup bottle was almost empty and was splattering all over when we tried to get some out. The chicken tacos were fine, but the vegetarian taco was so watery and had tons of store bought salsa (tasted exactly like PACE OR TOSTITOS). The refried beans was also mostly likely canned. Zero passion in prepping the food. If you are looking for good food atleast vegetarian I would not come here. They only get stars for the location, service and atmosphere which was good. And the food wasn’t cheap...
