The proprietress of Grain Rain caught us while eating outside of CHOM next door. She was assertive and asked if we would like to try some of her tea.
Regardless of our answer she brought us each a small paper cup of Jasmine tea. The floral, elegant scent was not unlike incense (if that incense were made of gold).
We decided to visit the shop, expecting a variety of dry leaf teas to purchase.
We were whisked into a tour, explaining the origins of tea all while showing us around her beautifully decorated shop.
Here she sells an experience. What seemed to be the ceremonial tea experience.
Arranged tables laden with ornate tea sets and beautiful stoneware. Small mellow cakes served to you with minuscule forks. Traditional tea cups (like miniature bowls). Her kind service won our hearts.
She was considerate of our preferences and attempted to avoid giving us anything with green tea. We later learned that oolong tea, Jasmine tea, and white tea are derived from the same plant (nice to know for those who care).
Regardless, the experience was enriching, uplifting, and insightful. The kindness of the owner cannot be overstated.
Aside from the cultural experiences on offer Grain Rain also sells dry leaf herbal tea, beautiful tea sets, and various ornaments that enrich the home.
Let her show you her shop. Support it. This is a special experience, whether or not you can enjoy the titular green-tea based main products....
Read moreThis tea house is absolutely fantastic! I visited the place on my last day in Salt Lake after having a week-long road trip to Yellow Stone. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and their passion for tea culture shines through. It's the real deal when it comes to authentic Chinese tea. Trusted me, I am Chinese. They treated us to some exquisite oolong tea that had a distinct, rich aroma. The fragrance of the tea only grew more intense with each brew, and I found myself completely immersed at the moment.
The Chinese-style desserts they served alongside it were simply delightful. My partner and I indulged in Yam cake, green bean cake, and even some mouthwatering cheesecake. After a long road trip, this place was exactly what I needed. It offered such a relaxing and refreshing experience.
Aside from the amazing tea, I also took the time to explore the different function rooms in the tea house. Each room in the tea house was beautifully decorated, with every corner thoughtfully designed to provide the best experience for their customers. The owners really put their heart and soul into creating a truly special atmosphere.
If you're looking to have a truly pleasant and immersive experience of Chinese tea culture, I highly recommend this place. You won't be...
Read moreHidden gem is an understatement for this magical, family-owned teahouse. My friend and I visited after reading the five-star reviews online, and our experience surpassed our already high expectations. The owners, a lovely couple from China, served us at least six different teas with delicious homemade snacks and cakes (they woke up at 5am to prepare the mung bean cake!). It was a cultural immersion unlike any other I've experienced in Provo. We learned about the regions that each tea comes from, their histories, whether to steep each tea in very hot water or not, etc. and got the chance to practice Chinese calligraphy, including tracing our names. We ended up staying for almost three hours and left only to avoid overstaying our welcome, though our generous hosts continued to offer us more tea (and sent us home with complimentary samples). The space is beautiful (our hostess joked that it's because she waters the plants with tea) and includes a private room for parties and events. We will...
