I will first say, the desserts and the drinks were all amazing and very tasty. However, unfortunately the 2 star review comes solely from the service. Bella was our server and she was unhelpful and condescending. They had two quiches of the day (a broccolini cheddar and an onion gruyere) - my boyfriend asked which quiche the server preferred and the response was an attitude-filled remark "well, they're both the same recipe just different toppings." then points to them in a "that's so obvious" tone. She then proceeded to explain that the "broccoli cheddar" was one quiche, and that the "onion gruyere" was the other quiche, which he knew.. he was just asking the servers opinion of what she likes. Then, when desserts came around (we ordered 5 desserts and two salty snacks) we all were scrambling to understand what was what, and she very rudely said "THATS what you ordered- the pumpkin cheesecake" to my boyfriend, as if he were stupid for not knowing what was what. At one point, I was concerned as of why she was being so rude to us- so I mentioned something to my friend about "Oh dang I didn't realize they closed at midnight, I thought they closed at 2:00" (we got there at around 11:00) to which she interrupted in an almost humorous tone "We haven't closed at 2:00 in 10 years." I have another comment that I'd wish to share non-publicly, and hope that a manager will reach out so I can explain further. I am in the service industry, so I definitely understand being slightly irritated at starting a table within the last hour of being open- however, it was a Saturday night and it was my Birthday so I just felt disappointed that our table was...

I visited Bittersweet as part of a walking food tour of Raleigh, and the next time I am in town I will definitely be back.

Bittersweet is a cocktail, dessert and coffee lounge with a unique menu of baked goods and cocktails with a very robust bar (they specialize in gin!) It is a cute little place and the atmosphere is fantastic. We got to chat with the owner's husband who shared that they promote themselves as a cocktail bar first solely due to the fact that most people associate bakeries with early morning hours, and they are not earlybirds here. Bittersweet opens in the afternoon and serves customers throughout the evening and honestly - I love that. It's a wonderful concept.

As part of our food tour, we were given a dark chocolate and sea salt chocolate chip cookie and a cinnamon carrot cupcake with cream cheese frosting. Both were phenomenal and I was tempted to order more. I also had the Painkiller shot which was perfectly mixed and obviously delicious.

Perusing their menu makes me automatically want to visit again. The cocktail offerings are unique and enticing. The dessert options sound amazing. And again the bar - it's stocked with booze and as I said, they specialize in gin. If you love gin, you'll be at home here. Just check out their menu!

The location is right in downtown and is easy to walk to. They don't take reservations and the space itself is relatively small, so plan accordingly. Highly recommend if you are...

I came here with a friend a few years ago and absolutely loved this place. Not sure what happened between then and now, but based on the level of service received last week, I definitely won’t be returning.

A group of friends and I decided to stop by after dinner. We were a party of five. Apparently there was a line to enter that evening, which was totally fine. A few smaller groups were allowed in and we hoped we’d follow them soon. The “bouncer” (for lack of a better term) was okay until a large group of family/friends showed up to visit. Instead of monitoring the situation inside, he was busy taking pictures and socializing to pay attention. Two large groups departed during this time and he never even saw them. When he decided he was ready to do his job again, instead of seating us where those groups were situated, we were placed at a table that was much larger than what we needed. Our group was told that we might have to move if a larger party ended up arriving (which happened, and wouldn’t have been as annoying had it not been for our experience prior to entering the establishment). Why not seat us at a smaller area to avoid the situation in the first place?

The drinks and desserts we ordered were fine, but no one in our party was thrilled with the level of service we received throughout the night. It’s certainly gone downhill,...

Bittersweet is my favorite cocktail bar downtown and is definitely in the running for my favorite cocktail bar in Raleigh. They have an extensive list of house craft cocktail creations from boozy old fashioneds to mild spa-waters and everything in between. Their selection of Gin might be the best in the triangle. You can go on Gin safari with Gin and Tonic. Literally a shot of the Gin of your choice a glass of ice, a lime wedge and a bottle of tonic. I have found several new Gins I like this way. Sniff and sip the Gin by itself, then make my own GnT as strong/weak as I like. Bittersweet also has a great selection of visually beautiful and delicious desserts including a rotating selection of house made pies. It’s just a great place to grab a drink and something sweet anytime or after dinner at any of the nearby restaurants.
