Did the Durham Dark and Mysterious Ghost Walk. While our guide was super polite as was the guy on the phone, the tour just isn't very fun. Kids will be incredibly bored on this. Not much is offered on this tour that can't be obtained through a quick Google search of the building/sight. We are willing to give them a second chance next time we visit. But only because perhaps this just isn't a "fun" tour of theirs? Not to mention that almost no meeting spot is given other than "At Mellow Mushroom". Nothing about inside, outside, near a statue, certain side of the building, our guide will be wearing a certain shirt etc etc etc. Had to ask around for 20 minutes. Neither of our guides had anything on them to mark who they work for/with. Had we not been asking around I'm not sure we would have made it on the tour. They also make no effort to see if anyone has left the group or is getting left behind. Save the money and head over to Raleigh, waaaaaay better stuff there to drop this kind...
Read moreWent on the Haunted Footsteps Walking Tour. My husband and I were on vacation from out of town, and I really like learning the history of wherever it is I'm visiting. While your level of belief in the paranormal or supernatural may vary, the real draw with this tour is the storytelling ability of the guide. If I recall correctly, our guide's name was Jean. Jean had an incredible talent for storytelling and our tour was more like a walking performance. I don't mean this in a hokey sense. The stories were told with fervor to really get you interested, but Jean was also very personable and humorous between stops. She even made sure to look out for magnolia blossoms along our walk since she found out neither my husband nor I had ever smelled one. I would certainly recommend this tour and especially this guide. Be warned that there are graphic depictions (verbal and pictorial) of multiple deaths, so the tour may not be suitable...
Read moreLast night's tour of Durham, the "Dark and Mysterious Ghost Walk" was great. Don't go expecting an episode of Ghost Hunters, or hokey staged nonsense of someone jumping out at you in a dark alley. Instead, go and hear Maxine - who is a superb story teller - share some truly creepy tales of unexplained visitations in old hotels, double hauntings by victim and murderer in old warehouses, and sadly sweet tales of ghosts still looking for lost lovers or guarding the places and people they loved. You will walk much of downtown Durham, both the bright shiny new one and the older, darker historical areas. You will discover things you never knew about the city. And Maxine will keep you spellbound. I heartily recommend this tour to anyone who values the art of story telling, and the...
