First, I want to say that our waitress was very pleasant and the clerk who sat us and helped us with our check was also very nice as well. However, my son and I came here with the free breakfast promotion to try the “newish” restaurant in town. We had never been to this establishment, the ambiance is nice with the bear themes . However beyond the bears the health inspection rating on the door through us with the “B” rating but gave us something to talk about and a chance to read why on the internet. We were seated quickly to a table that had not been wiped down. The hostess apologized and went and grabbed a rag from the man cleaning tables and wiped it down and then dried it with a place mat saying “the napkins just fall apart”. We smiled and I pulled out my chair to food all over the floor from a previous family . A quick look at the floor and this was the case throughout. A waitress quickly took our order and again very pleasant, as I glanced around to restaurant with most tables occupied an about half of them with food. There was only two waitresses for a fairly large crowd and one person busing tables and a hostess seating and helping fill in where she could. Then, the food came. We both ordered the typical breakfast with two eggs. He received bacon and I did ham. He did French toast and I had two pancakes and a coffee. The pancakes must have been sitting for quite some time and the ham was so salty one could barely eat it. My sons French toast was slices of bread that barely would qualify as French toast. So, as my son and I drove home we could not help but wonder why a business would provide a free meal to try a restaurant and then fail at the one thing they needed to do which was make good food. In addition, during a time of cleanliness being so important one can only wonder would you not want to appear very clean. The goal should have been to provide the best service and food for new customers so they are wanting to come back. Instead we were left wondering why anyone would pay $15.99 for food that would cost less then a few dollars to make at home and taste a thousand times better, and that was the cheapest thing on the menu, besides adding a side to something that cost nearly as much as a complete meal at another restaurant. We never saw a manager, but why would anyone pay outrageous prices for bad food. Seriously, I am so glad I didn’t bring my family of five here to the cost of $100 plus dollars. Rancho has way better choices. Go...
Read moreQuality diner food with a charming atmosphere that will for sure fill you up. The biggest shock to me when I moved to California after growing up in Oklahoma, was that diners and diner food was held in higher regard out here. Where i came from, diner food is an easy staple that you for sure can find in any tiny town. Greasy spoon fare isn't something that will win you any awards, but it's good and filling. It was everywhere where I grew up. When I moved to the land of avacados and burritos, it's one of the first thing I noticed is that diner type food is special to the people out here. It's not on every corner, so they appreciate it and celebrate the type of food. So when I see diners with great reviews, I must admit, I immediately take it with a grain of salt. This is the type of food I've had most of my life and it takes a lot to impress me. Black Bear Diner fits right into this mold. Charming setup that looks like an expanded diner filled with busy waitresses smiling and slinging food and plates all over. The food is greasy, tasty and filling and there's a ton to choose from. We didn't have anything we didn't like, but the food fell right into the category of what's to be expected. The staff looked shorthanded and they all were super nice and professional. We waited a bit, but didn't bother us in the slightest because when we were helped, they made us feel at home. The only food that stood out to me was the chicken fried steak. It tasted very similar to how I had it back home and that's not an easy feat. You didn't even need a knife to cut it. I'm a little jaded when it comes to diners, but I had so many recommendations of this place that I had to try it. The food is great, the staff is fantastic and the place is warm and welcoming. If you enjoy diners, you'll most assuredly love this place. If your like me and grew up on this kind of stuff, it's a good place to scratch up some old memories with food that will definitely trigger...
Read moreComing from someone with about 18years of food service experience, I'd simply say that Rancho-cucamonga BB Cafe was at best, a serious let down. My first and last time here. Such a shame too because there is a great concept and atmosphere (if it was kept clean). At 830am on a Sunday, it took an hour and a half from being sat to eating one entree split with my guest, despite it not being busy. Sat at a half clean table with half filled condiments, next to 3 other fully un-bussed tables, we waited 45 minutes for one entrée to come out in 3 stages, without silverware, which lead to the food being sub par and quickly turned cold. The worst part was, by 9am, the staff had more than doubled and service did not improve. No sign of a manager anywhere, the staff was free to move slow and do things like roll silverware and fill salt and peppers while the kitchen struggled, tables remained un-bussed and the servers left un assisted with even the simplest things like coffee refills and clearing dishes. For an average of $20 - $30+ an entrée, I'd have thought the experience would have been better. I was so disappointed, I didn't even bother mentioning it to a manager. Clearly, they wouldn't have cared. As I finished up by paying my bill at the front counter, I was asked how everything was. I replied it was "okay" in a tone that didn't match being okay, to which there was no concern if things could have been better. Lesson learned. I wouldn't eat there again if they bought...
