TL;DR: there will be a wait but service is fast paced.
Authentic and flavorful dishes. Add the provided ginger into your broth!
Parking: street side or public garage.
Atmosphere: small dining area and awkwardly placed waiting area seats smack dab in the middle of the restaurant, otherwise wait outside. A bit cramped feeling. Very vintage feel interior with oriental decor mixed with early USA 1900s decor. Check out all those containers of sesame oil!
Service: very fast paced in/out service. They only serve a few dishes on their limited menu, food comes out within minutes of ordering. Order and pay at your table via a QR code scan on your phone, food brought to you, you will be watered, boxes available upon request for leftovers. You can also order via your server, if you do so, walk up to the counter to pay when you are done.
Menu: posted on your table as a QR code. Short, simple, descriptive, has photos. Everything is authentically flavored just right - nothing overpowering or Americanized like Panda Express.
Complimentary condiments at the table: Housin sauce, hot sauce, green pickled garlic, ginger/green onion oil (great addition to your soup/broth), etc.
Classic Chicken Rice: comes with dipping sauces but honestly the dish itself is already pretty flavorful and aromatic! The chicken is very tender and melt in your mouth consistency and the rice is soft, flavorful and fluffy. Very refreshing side of cucumbers and greens. The broth that it comes with is extremely flavorful! The small side of pickled veggies is a nice palate cleanser between bites.
Crispy Chicken Rice: dish is exactly the same as the Classic except the fact that the chicken is fried. The batter layer isn’t too thick and has a nice gentle crunch that’s not overpowering. I will say that it seems there is some dark meat in here as opposed to the Classic dish that has all white meat. It’s still texturally tasty nonetheless! Not too much flavor on its own but fantastic with the provided sauces.
Kuy Teav Phnom Penh: aromatic authentic broth. Organ meat isn't for everyone so if you aren't interested keep that in mind because it decreases the amount of protein you would have in this dish if you put the meat aside. Protein content was generous but there were still a lot of noodles leftover for me so the ratio wasn't too even.
Speaking of the noodles, I found that it was hard to pick up with chopsticks because they kept breaking from being slightly overcooked. I do wish there were more greens in the mix though. It's heavy on the carbs and protein with only 2 small leaves of lettuce. Comes with beansprouts and a slice of lime as well. I added some of the provided ginger from the table into my soup and it...

The restaurant itself is cozy, with stylish decor and good lighting that creates a welcoming atmosphere. Service was decent, but the star of the show was definitely the food. We ordered three dishes: the classic Chicken Rice, COMBO CHICKEN RICE and Phnom Penh noodle dry version,. The portions were generous. The Hainanese chicken was tender and perfectly cooked, with flavorful, aromatic rice infused with chicken oil that was absolutely delicious. The fried chicken in the combo platter was wonderfully crispy on the outside without being overly battered. But my favorite was the dry noodles. Despite not being much of a noodle fan, these were a standout. Tossed in their house-made sauce (available at the table), they were incredibly flavorful, and the black pork slices added a rich, savory touch. If you’re a fan of Hainanese Chicken Rice or simply love flavorful, well-executed dishes, I highly recommend AMA. It’s a must-visit spot in Richmond!, a combo platter, and dry noodles. FOOD/MENU: Combo Chicken Rice $18.95: 3 Stars – This is a lunch set that with pickled vegetables, broth, rice, and two different types of sauce. The crispy chicken had an excellent texture, crispy and crunchy without grease but it also lacked flavor. The Hainanese style chicken was definitely the best part with the subtle flavor of the chicken, ginger, and garlic. The meat was so moist and springy. The pickle vegetables had good flavor but it definitely lack volume… I actually didn’t realize it came with the vegetables and had order an “extra” which for $2 was really sad… The broth was amazing! Lets be honest, its chicken water but it was so much flavor in such a clear soup.
A Ma Dried Noodles (Spicy) $19.95: 3 Stars – This looked amazing which made the lack of flavor so much worse LOL Similar to the crispy chick in the combo, it was great texture but it needed something like maybe just simple salt. The noodles didn’t have great flavor either… the sauce that came with combo rice made the noodle taste 100x better. Also if it says spicy, it better light my mouth on fire which of course it didn’t..
RESTAURANT/SERVICE: Extremely small restaurant that has roughly 10 tables (2-4 person top). Extremely busy when we went on a Sunday around lunch time but we got lucky by beating the line. I will say, there isn’t a high turn over either so I feel like a lot of folks left to go somewhere else… but they could have also went to the next door H-Mart to kill time.
The place is super cute, modern, kitschy-ish, borderline hipster-ish. Great vibe but I cant actually say too much about the service as everything is very no-touch/limited contact.
I like that the menu was simple and straight forward. Meaning they specialize in what they do… I hope they can up the flavor and everything would be amazing. Whenever I come back, I hope this place...
