Bring a friend to give you a second opinion.
I have visited Colors of Redmond twice and they have a good selection of clothes but it is a bit pricey. Their prices are comparable to online shopping sites like Kalki Fashion.
The store is a good option if you need something right away and cannot get it while in India/South Asia.
I had a wedding to attend in India that had 7 functions and I was arriving just before the wedding so there was no time for me to shop in India. I bought a Sharrara and Lehenga/Choli set and two blouses from Colors.
Bring a friend or relative with you to give you a second opinion on the clothes. They do not allow returns (only exchanges with a set amount of time) and they do not allow you to take pictures of yourself wearing the outfit. I’m sure there must be a reason for this policy but in retrospect I wish I had brought my daughter along.
The dressing rooms are also very, very cramped. I suggested that perhaps they could convert the three dressing rooms into one or two big ones.
I was helped by Prachi on my most recent visit and she was so courteous and professional. She gave me opinions on the outfits and made several very helpful suggestions.
Most of the outfits come in large or extra large sizes which is about a US 8 or 10 (42/44). If you need a larger size, you might want to call and ask or order custom made from India (there are websites like Kalki and Aza that offer larger sizes but there may be a long lead time).
Many of the outfits have extra seam allowance if you need to have them let out.
They will give you the name of a tailor in South Bellevue who will do alterations ($25 cash per...
Read moreThis review and rating is solely based on my experience looking for men's clothing. I went here to look for traditional wear for myself, but there weren't many options when it comes to unique styles and designs. The couple of ones that I did like, weren't available in my size (~42).
My problem with the place is that, I was the only customer in the place at that time and yet I felt like the person attending the shop was either not well versed in terms of men's clothing or had no motivation to sell their clothing. When I entered the place and asked for kurtas, the employee just pointed me to the back of the shop to look for men's wear. Me and my partner had to go through all the clothes hanging on the rack and check sizes and styles for ourselves. Most places I've been to at least ask about the occasion, color or preferences and then try to suggest something that they feel you might find interesting. I did like one kurta but it wasn't available in my size, so I asked if it's possible to find one. They simply said 'No' and no followup suggestions or recommendations. The person attending wasn't rude about it, but genuinely seemed disinterested in selling their clothes to me. They were just sitting in one place doing their own thing while my partner was doing their job for me. If you're looking for traditional Indian men's clothing, there's way better...
Read moreI think the store has some good collection but I had an unpleasant experience which I think could have been avoided with more transparency from the management. I went in looking for a white Kurta and Pyjama and was quoted 90$ after the store associate(Simran) found out after asking on the phone with the owner (Deepika) since there was no price tag on the item. As I was in a hurry to get to an appointment, I decided to come back later to make the purchase. When I went to visit next time in 3-4 days, the store employee( different from the first time) had to call the owner to check on the price. This time the price quoted by the owner was 140$.When asked how the price varied so much, I was told it was due to an exhibition sale during the previous visit. I was never told of this exhibition price vs the original price. Neither were there any signs to indicate this at the store. The final price offered was 120$ to honor the exhibition price which did not make sense either since I was quoted 90$ on the first visit. So it was my word against theirs with no proof on either side. This method of calling the owner on phone leading to eventual price variation( both increase or decrease) for the customer could have been avoided by better price tagging. Hope the feedback is taken and...
