3 Ham dinners, 1 turkey dinner and a Roast beef sandwich was ordered. It was mine and my twin sister's Birthday. We loved Harry's Hofbrau on the border of San Jose and Santa Clara. We were saddened when it closed down a couple years ago... so we were excited to find and eat at this Harry's in Redwood City. We were disappointed! All the plates were lukewarm or cold! Ham had rubbery texture to it.. maybe because it was last of the ham slab. No flavor or taste to the food. No salt or pepper on tables or given. Utensils were dirty. It was like eating in a cafeteria... not a restaurant. At the serving counter... The meat server was older gentleman. He was quite nice and inviting. The other larger lady serving sides was rude... rushed us thru the line. Semi slammed plates and stuff that we asked for on to the tray. She got really upset when we asked her for some butter for the hard staled rolls. She kinda threw 2 butter pats on the plate. It was not too busy in the so called restaurant. Being that the food was not too appetizing and service was rude... we are on the fence about going back, although we would like to give them another chance... honestly...don't know. Maybe we held it up on a higher standard since the old Harry's Hofbrau in SJ/ Santa Clara was so good to us. Wondering how they can vary so much in taste and quality. The pics show the amount of ham we got. This was 2 plates of the 3 Ham Dinners we purchased. Pieces (served by a tall man in late 30s or 40s seemed like a manager and was dressed up differently) vs. FULL Slices. (served by the nice rounder older gentleman) We were NOT impressed by the Ham. Waste of money. The turkey looked good. The plate was eaten. Gave 1 star. Roast Beef was ok. It was eaten only because...
Read moreI had the WORST experience at Harry's Hoffbrau! They overcharged us $20 for an extra dinner we didn't order. The cashier seemed like a newbie, so maybe it was a mistake, but still...I wish it was the only problem.
We checked the receipt at our table and found the error. I went to another register with a friendly attitude to sort it out, but another guy at the register was so unwelcoming and made me feel like it was MY fault. No apologies at all! Just acted like he was doing me a favor with the refund.
I asked for a new receipt to make sure everything was fixed properly, and you know what he did? He threw my first receipt in the trash, telling me to "check my bank account." No care at all!
After waiting for 25 minutes into our dinner, the guy who made the refund (and turned out to be a manager) approached us and asked what the problem was. Instead of apologizing, he started making excuses, blaming the cashier and the POS system. My problem wasn't overcharge. It was "don't care about that white chick" attitude. He didn't want to listen to me or my husband when we tried to voice our complaints, he remained calm but kept interrupting.
I hoped he would apologize or offer some resolution like a gift card to make us feel better, but he didn't do anything of the sort. He just walked away and left us feeling incredibly mad and disappointed without even attempting to make amends. As a person who knows how to provide a customer service and how to deal with a angry customers, I was terrified, cause he didn't do anything to fix the situation. The whole experience left a bitter taste, and we won't be returning. The food was...
Read moreGood value for good food. By no means spectacular, but definitely satisfying! You get good sized portions of quality food. It is food that gets pre made and hangs out under a heat lamp, much like a school lunch, so it ends up not being super hot and fresh depending on when and what you're getting. This can definitely effect some people's enjoyment of the food, but this is something minor to me since I still enjoy it so much. I have had the turkey leg dinner, the leg of lamb dinner and had a bite of a ruben(spelling?) Sandwich. All were fantastic, the turkey leg is not dry and they are VERY generous with their gravy. One thing I will say, their stuffing, while tasty, has a very mushy texture. I enjoy it the same way I enjoy milk soaked cereal. The leg of lamb had an interesting flavor, almost as if it was cured or brined, and was lovely and tender. The corned beef in the sandwich was flavourful and we'll complimented with a well balanced sauerkraut that did not overwhelm the palate. I have also had the pumpkin pie, which I love since I was able to distinctly taste the spice, particularly the clove, and I had the carrot cake that was moist and had a (relatively) mild frosting with a great spiced and nutty flavor. I really like that cake... Anyway, the beer selection is nothing to sneeze at either. They have a variety of brews to quench your thirst and TVs playing sports around the bar (if you're into that). I was very happy with the stout I had. Overall, I would heavily recommend this place for a casual family or friends affair or if you're in the mood for beer and...
