Gonna go with a 4 for this place. It's a nice place don't get me wrong but I think they need to rethink some things. First there is a 90 minute table limit. That is tough on a weekend with parking in Rehoboth. Yes, I know folks should be prepared but still. Some slack should be afforded. Mainly because what I noticed was the wait staff and kitchen being extremely slow. You shouldn't be telling tables near me they have to take their food to go because the limit is up but your waiter was hamming it up with a table for nearly 10 minutes of precious time that I could be ordering and waiting for food. So maybe get more servers? Or speed that kitchen up. This did not happen to us but to the table next to us. But you'll see throughout the evening how the restaurant may need to add some wiggle room here. So we were seated promptly. However sat for nearly 10 minutes without being greeted by our waiter. Then, we were asked about what type of water we wanted and again waited. Then asked about drinks and waited. Then told about specials and waited. Finally appetizers are in. We're going on right 20 mins right now. Drinks now appear. Two seaform margaritas, one sweet, one spicy and one Old Fashioned. Drinks were great. So apps are in and it's hummus and octopus. We also ordered entrees, the Burger, Maple Salmon and a Duck entree. We were told the burger well done, which I didn't even ask for, asked for it medium well, would take nearly 30 minutes to prepare. That was a first for me. Anyway. Appetizers arrive and bam that quick here is dinner. No thanks. Don't start rushing me now. So we took our time, enjoyed the apps and drinks and then dug into the entrees. They were good. The 30 minute burger was absolutely delish along with the shoestring fries. Was told at the Maple Salmon was a hit and yes the duck with blueberry was fantastic but could have used a little salt. Oh this is a no salt/pepper on the table type of place too. Ok. So we are finishing up and now at the 90 minute mark. They have just told the table next to us to box their dessert up and scram. They then proceed to ask us if we want dessert. No. No I'm it being told to leave by be hostess after you offer me dessert. So no. We opted not to take the dessert and just wanted to go. There was then a mix up on the check. Our check was given to someone else and vice versa and now we're there even longer. So food was good, probably will not be back. Final thoughts. May be a bit too pretentious for me. It does look really nice when you're walking by though and it's all lit up with everyone in there. Food and Drinks are great but don't need a side of anxiety from the hostess eyeing you up as you eat looking...
Read moreWe were treated like absolute dirt from the get go. The site says walk ins welcomed- we were not welcome at all. I'm pretty sure the person who we met first was the owner. She wasn't in a uniform but did address us asking if we needed a table. She was not happy at all we didn't have a reservation. The way she looked at us made it apparent that she wasn't impressed with us to begin with. We were dressed in t-shirts and shorts and they clearly wanted clientele with more thought put into their wardrobe.
She said she found us a table - but there was no welcoming please follow me or anything indicating that we should proceed to go to that table. I asked if the one outside was free and she said it's reserved..no sign indicating it was - but thats fine. Lets just go. She exchanged an odd look to the hostess that didn't go unnoticed by me or another person in my group of 4 adults 2 children. The hostess then had the same attitude towards us as the 'owner' had led with. So we didn't pay her much mind. If the men in our group weren't wanting to just sit down and eat so badly we would have just left and went somewhere else. Lol I blame the men for this!
Hands down the food was AMAZING! The problem comes from the fact it took 2 hours to get our main course. A ribeye, a side of risotto, a salad, and two burgers. Our sever was apologetic and very kind. But it didn't go unnoticed that 4 tables were served and mid way through their meals and we still hadn't received our food. Our kids had eaten every last bite and french fry (which is unheard of) and yet we still hadn't gotten our food.
The owner had the Chef come out and apologize. She was very lovely and kind and had the charm the owner lacked greatly. She made us feel welcomed. What was sad was that the owner lacked the understanding of the problem. She couldn't see that she herself was the biggest issue with the attitude she started with. She gave false excuses such as short staffing, and a slammed kitchen. When i explained that we came in before the rush, and that staffing didn't matter since 4 other tables were sat after us and were mid way through eating - then she said 'well they had reservations'. I asked if they had also reserved their food before coming then.. She said she would take care of the bill. The bill was 197$. She took off 40$,.. She also made sure to charge 48$ of r a double shot rum and coke. I hope that lady really wasn't the owner, because she needs to be replaced. (We did tip our waitress well, it...
Read moreWhat a wonderful treasure we discovered! My sister and I spent the afternoon walking the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach and were hoping to find a nice seafood meal to end our day. It was like a gift to our palates that we decided to try the Shorebreak Lodge after reading some reviews. Everything on the menu sounded yummy, but we both opted for the fall tasting menu since it would allow us to try more of the offerings that intrigued us. I also added the ceviche special because I don’t get to have it very often; it was wonderful and served with crisp and tasty tortilla chips for dipping. The tasting menu started with a lovely assortment of cheeses accompanied by honey, raspberry jam, marcona almonds, thinly sliced red onions and balsamic drizzle served with a cracker assortment and it was not just delicious but fun to mix up the flavors as we sampled from the artfully prepared board. Next came a corn, crab and coconut bisque that was bursting with flavor. I wanted to lick the bowl. In fact, I think we said that after every course. After the soup came a huge, perfectly browned scallop accompanied by greens, butternut squash and perfectly cooked chunks of bacon with a beet purée. The final food plate was short ribs that were so sweet and tender and melted in your mouth that was served over a bed of creamy risotto with pesto. The finale was a thin slice of fudgy and delicious chocolate layer cake that was the perfect size to finish on a sweet note without overdoing the quantity of food. We’re already trying to plan a return visit for more of their fabulous menu items. I’m a water drinker, but my sister said her sangria was really good. Our lovely server Laura was a pleasant addition to the overall experience as was the smooth jazz playing in the background and the decor that added to...
