Hangry Bulldog Catering Co. — Restaurant in Roanoke

I came in at 1pm today, along with my service dog in training. It's a small place with only 6 or so tables, but it was clean and the staff/owners were very friendly. I was made to feel welcome right away! The kitchen is open concept, so you can see your food being prepared and the place just smells heavenly all the time. There's adorable bulldog artwork on the wall, good music over the radio, and a lot of natural light.

I ordered the Southern Belle burger, but asked for it rare (that's the kind of chaos agent I am). I let the server/owner know that if they couldn't do it rare, that was fine- most places can't or won't for health reasons, which I understand, but I figured I may as well ask. Much to my surprise, the cook came over to show me how rare he was cooking my burger and ask if that was "too rare" for me. In 40 years, I've never had a cook verify for me that our definitions of rare are similar, in order to ensure I'm pleased with my meal- how awesome!

It was, of course, fantastic. The burger bun is toasted to perfection, the green tomato slice was freshly fried, the cheese was gooey and hot, and the burger was juicy without being too messy. And the veg were clearly fresh as well. Hands down one of the best burgers I've had in Roanoke. And the fries! Perfectly crispy, and seasoned with salt and pepper, served fresh and piping hot. I also got a bottled soda, but I hope they have plans to make milkshakes at some point because this place is my definition of a perfect burger joint.

I really, really appreciate having dog-friendly places where I can work my service dog in training, but when those places also offer great food and friendly service, I'm happy as a clam.

I got to chatting with one of the owners afterward and learned that they newly reopened after closing for staffing issues earlier this year, so I'm glad my timing worked out. I'll definitely be coming back, and if I see their food truck at any of the local festivals I'll be patronizing it as well. They have things other than burgers, and the list of burgers is nicely extensive if you enjoy specialty items (as I do).

Lazy Bulldog visited my apartment complex today and the first thing I have to say is that I had high expectations that were immediately exceeded by a country mile. They were pumping out burgers and fries with speed and efficiency, and I haven't touched on how GOOD they were yet. The fries were perfectly seasoned, crispy, and HOT! I can't ask for more from a french fry. We got the bacon cheddar ranch burgers to accompany the fries, and it, too, was everything I could ever want in a cheeseburger. It was cooked perfectly. The ingredients tasted fresh, and as silly as it sounds, it didn't taste like they cut any corners sourcing their ingredients. You know as well as I do that you can tell when a restaurant or food truck is using cheap stuff. The thick cut bacon was cooked perfectly with some chew and some crunch, and it seemed like it had a seasoning on it that I really enjoyed. Even the roll the burger was on was too delicious to not scarf down, and I'm trying not to eat bread. Haha! I bit into a french fry on my way back to my apartment and had planned to take a photo of my meal, but I honestly couldn't put it down.

Brandon and the wife and kids are a 10/10!!! The food is amazing the owner Brandon makes u feel like family!!! If you haven’t already eaten here then run…now and get the po boy loaded fries and teriyaki burger 🤤🤤🤤🤤 I can’t remember the last time I’ve eaten anything as ONO as this!!! The food is a masterpiece!!! The menu will have u unsure what to order because ur gonna want it all!!! And I plan on eating it all!!! Ur first visit will have u looking forward to ur second visit!!!
