1st visit. Special occasion (20th Anniversary). 6:00 reservation. We really reallyâŠreally wanted to give a better rating, but they failed on service, food, and atmosphere. We refused the first attempted seating b/c the table was in the blazing western sun (suggest shades!?!?). Second attempt was a table at the rear of the seating area adjacent to a table of 8. The whole place was so loud, conversation across the table was not possible. âHardâ material surfaces (exposed steel structure/ceilings, glass walls, floors, decor) make for a very very loud environment & thatâs what youâll get after about 30-40% capacityâŠthere are no quiet areas. The service was terrible. After over 20 minutes (no water, no drink orders), we had decided to leave, but were discovered by E___, Six & Sky Review:

We refused the first attempted seating b/c the table was in the blazing western sun (suggest shades!?!?). Second attempt was a table at the rear of the seating area adjacent to a table of 8âŠlater joined by another (separate) party of 8âŠThe whole place was so loud, conversation across the table was not possible. âHardâ material surfaces (exposed steel structure/ceilings, glass walls, floors, decor) make for a very very loud environment & thatâs what youâll get after about 30-40% capacityâŠthere are no quiet areas. The service was terrible. After over 20 minutes (no water, no drink orders), we had decided to leave, but were discovered by E___, our young waitress who apologized & attempted to make up for the shirk. She did very wellâŠDrink menu is varied & delivered drinks were pleasing. No bread. No (small) side/dinner salad is offered. No 1/2 orders. The seafood menu selection is impressive. The seafood prep was NOT. The Oyster Rock were globbed with a mixture that overwhelmed the Oysters, contributing 0 to this appetizer, also they were not hot when served; avoid. The (âSpecialâ) Coconut Shrimp appetizer; the best dish of our visit. The Soft-Shelled Crab (âSpecialâ) missed the essence of S-S C, by burying the Crab in gravy. Gravy. Not sauce. Gravy. The âgravyâ hid an undercooked Crab. This dish/prep needs to change. It could not be finished; avoid. 2nd entree was Cajun Snapper (the Wif) & reported as 4-Star, but skin should be removedâŠWe were hoping for a better quality restaurant in Downtown. This is, at best, a Happy-Hour hang out with no views; all seated/Bar views are the backside of the parapet walls. The outside hi-tables & stools offer views of the top of the parapet walls and 0 of the downtown environmentâŠthe rooftop areas offer an interesting âstrollâ for sipping drinks - if allowed - weather permitting; otherwise, lower your expectations. This âroof-topâ establishment has to do much MORE than just exist in recovered roof-top space to justify their location & dining atmosphere & cost/entree, drinks, etc. Wait for better reviews before your patronageâŠDid I mention the establishment was LOUD, but had no views? (Except for tippy-toe views over the parapet wall?)(for...
Read moreSo a solid 4. I have been trying to get here for about a year now and it was moderate, not spectacular but good. A little bit of a maze to get to the actual restaurant, just follow the signs. No fault of theirs. The setting is what I assume the best they could do. Although a relief from the typical downtown Roanoke meat packing ceilings, the iron beams were actually worse. The flower globes were a nice attempt to hide it but just attracted more attention to it. Probably set forth by the historical society but it needs something different if ever possible. The "views" are more or less blocked by the wanna be skyscraper banks and hotels of Roanoke or SE, take your pick. Music, I may be biased on my actual preference but something different than what youd hear at 202 or the Beef on the reg. Service was good, the bar banter was a fun listen for "people watchers". They handled other table situations with profession and those tables ultimately seemed to still leave satisfied. clap happy hands The local distillery support gets a kudos. I really wanted to try the Bradys Manhattan but they were out. All the same was nice to hear it is prepared spscial in house. The blood orange ole fashion, missing a cinnamon stick and it probably would of gotten a second round. We got the baked brie app, tasty but not user friendly. A serrated spoon would of been handy to cut the crust and actually get it onto the naan. *cue dinner fork, stab it an grab it. Now, the main course... The lady had the burger, she literally drooled the succulent meat while eating it. After the "cute" vday custard design with the strawberries and cream this should be appreciated. I found humor in it. ;) Ill judge a restaurant by its steak though. If you cant cook a steak, gtfo. Lobster tail, beautiful. Its like the chef knew itd be sitting for a bit before getting to the table. Well done. The butter could use a little herb work, throw some fresh parsley in it. This logic however, does not work well with beef. The filet. Med rare arrived at a firm medium. The char was on point but the meat itself reminded me of when Guga used meat glue on ground beef to make a filet, it had a hard taste of BurgerKing I couldnt get out of my mind even in the way it cut, no fibers. Seasoned well with a hamburger-esque flavor and texture as it was easily cut through with a butter knife. I really dont think this was the quality of the chef as the quality of the beef. Dessert, the beignets were excellent, i should of left room to get fat on butter bread, like seriously, it was good. The custard mentioned, excellent as well. All in all, while not in my tops of downtown, well keep this...
Read moreMy husband and I were absolutely appalled at the lack of service, quality, and organization present at Six and Sky. He secured reservations for my birthday dinner, and we arrived early to ensure that we got our seats. Upon arrival, we were told it would be 1-1.5 hours to sit outside, so we agreed to sit inside even though we had planned to sit outside. At first, they attempted to see us near the bar, which was crowded and quite loud. The bar was also about 3 feet away from the table that they were trying to sit us at, so we requested a different table, which they hesitantly put us at after we saw it empty. Our waitress, Mickey, was friendly; however, service was extremely slow. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, but we waited around 15 minutes for the appetizer and then an additional 10 for the drinks. After asking three times for straws, we still never receive them until our drinks were gone. We placed an order for entrĂ©es, and we asked a question about one of the dishes containing gluten because it was marked as a gluten-free option on the menu. Our waitress assured us that she would check on it and get back to us, then we didnât see her for the next 25 minutes. Our table had a clear view of the kitchen, so we were watching dishes, be delivered to tables and food going out at relatively normal speeds. Later, our waitress circled back to our table and asked us if we were considering ordering entrĂ©es for the evening. When we looked visibly confused, she realized that we must have already told her our orders, so she said she would check on them. After another 10 minutes, she came back and said that she had checked on them, and they would be out momentarily. Then, another 20 minutes went by. Another gentleman brought out food, one of which was an incorrect entrĂ©e, and the other was an entrĂ©e that we werenât sure was gluten-free. When we mentioned that we had not ordered one of the entrĂ©es, the gentleman took both trays of food back into the kitchen, despite us saying that one of them theoretically was correct. At that point, we were over the entire experience, so we left cash on the table and departed. We had been so excited to come and experience the restaurant, but we were left sorely disappointed by what we found. All in all, we will not be returning, and we will dissuade anyone else from making the trek downtown and paying for parking for slow service, incorrect menu items, and clearly...
