Detailed review: Dining at Table 50 was a truly memorable experience, one that leaves you wanting to return time and again. I'm from out of town and Roanoke was a stopping point on my route so I checked for recommendations from locals. Table 50 was mentioned several times so of course I had to taste it for myself! From the moment we walked in the staff were welcoming and the environment was cozy and inviting. After being sat our table we were attended to by Tiffany who added to the whole experience ten fold, she was so kind and attentive. I decided on the special of the night which was Filet Mignon, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and baked oysters. After 8hrs on the road I couldn't wait for a tasty, hot meal and I got so more than expected. Everything was perfect! There are very tiny salt and pepper shakers on the table and their small size is a perfect statement even if it wasn't intentional because you won't need them!
Tiffany checked in with us and made sure we had everything we needed, our glasses were never left empty. She and I got to chatting when it came time for desert and I realized what was so appealing about Table 50 after our conversation. They treat each other like family and that energy and compassion is felt by the customer. Founded in 2006 this place has lasted through the ages because of its quality ingredients and exceptional service, but most importantly because of the comaraderie of the staff. Tiffany is passionate about where she works and takes pride in the food they serve and it shows! Based on Tiffany's recommendation the desert I decided on was their Chocolate Mousse Torte with a raspberry reduction and Oreo crumb crust. She told me how it is a recipe created by the founding chef who passed the recipe down to the current chef and it was heaven in every bite.
I feel very blessed for my experience at Table 50 nestled on a quaint side street of Roanoke with the lovely Tiffany as our waitress and I hope that my travels take me...
Read moreWe ventured out to try this restaurant as it looks so cute from the outside… and sigh.
So the front view is adorable - it looks quaint and cute inside. The cuteness is just the front (bar area) and then it’s just a depressing rickety ambiance in the back. The tables and chairs felt cheap and not premium - and when you are expecting a premium experience based on the menu and prices (for Roanoke), it is very odd. It is so bland and lacking in any sort of personality in the main seating area that it’s almost depressing.
Next, the drinks. Terrible. Truly. Omg. Couldn’t finish if I wanted to and I did not want to. Heavy pours, no craft, no caring for the drinks. We’re spoiled with excellent drinks on a regular basis, but these were not premium drinks. These were mid-20s, I want to get hammered and see what happens drinks.
Next, the food. My husband’s steak was quite good and that is apparently what they are known for. He was lucky with that. So get that if you go.
I unfortunately ordered the seared tuna steak - and the waitress asked me if I knew it was mostly rare. Um, yes. I do know that. That should have been my sign to change my order. I got this two huge hunks of tuna that were seared unevenly and with the most insanely terrible smattering of pepper/spices I have ever experienced. Some parts of the tuna had gobs of the pepper and most had none. The tuna should have been thinly sliced and well proportioned with seasonings - and cooked evenly. It was none of those things.. I have had seared tuna my entire life. This is one of my favorite dishes, I’ve had it many many times. I literally choked at one point when I ate coagulated pepper in a mound that was on the underside (and I didn’t see it before eating it). The tuna was also over cooked and it wasn’t tender.
The service was sub par at best. We kept having to ask for water - and let me tell you, when you are choking on pepper mounds, you need water. At one point I finally waited so long without water that I started to get up and get it myself so I could stop coughing. It was a comedy.
Oh, the garden salad was … a garden salad so that was fine.
If you go, get the...
Read moreWent here for a very special night out and dinner. Inside vibe was nice and rustic, and was seated at a nice corner table. Interesting drink options and a sweet potato gnocchi appetizer started our meal and both were tasty. My wife had the Southern Fried Chicken breast with the garlic mashed potatoes and the collard greens, and all were very good. My meal took an entirely different turn. I ordered the Beef Stroganoff with filet mignon tips. The first bite was tasty. The beef tender, and the sauce tasty. Literally the remainder of my steak however was completely inedible gristle. The waitress came and took my plate without asking why it appeared untouched. When she returned and then did ask about our meals, I conveyed just how bad it was. I explained that I never mentioned it earlier because one, I kept thinking obviously it would get better, and also she was absent for most of our meal. She then returned from the kitchen and said the chef "appreciated my feedback" and explained that the meat in my Stroganoff was the trimmings leftover from the actual filets served. So for $26 I got the scraps in sauce with pasta. It was never even offered to remove this item from our bill, but only offered a free dessert to compensate for a completely inedible entrée. This was my first trip to Table 50, and was under the impression it was one of the nicest restaurants in the area. From my experience it is definitely not, and the lackadaisical attitude from the kitchen and the staff was truly perplexing. I left without asking for the manager, but not sure if that would have changed the outcome, as I see the management hasn't commented on other negative experiences in their reviews. Sadly , I likely won't be giving them another chance due to this non caring attitude. With Carlos now closed, Roanoke is definitely in need of a restaurant that offers a truly special experience and food quality to match. Table 50 is not...
